I am also not from the USA, but in my own country (in Hungary) all politicians are the same, so it does not matter in the end.

Many people do not vote for them, because "there are no better ones".

I don't believe they are 'all the same'. Politicians are just people with all their faults.

This is true. So an important questions to ask could be -

How "spiritually aware" is the candidate?

Will he/she be truthful?

Will he/she be able to protect themself from the death threats will come as a result of telling the truth?

Who really wants that job? We put too much responsibility on one person.

I agree. "That One Person" should be a delegate who speaks the consensus reached by a team of knowledgeable "experts" who have come to consensus on the subject matter in hand. He/She should not be giving opinion or making decisions himself

This happens in Italy too unfortunately.
