The Gulf of Mexico is Steaming!

in #weather7 years ago

This is what happens when air temperatures of 20°F meet water temperatures of 64°F... Holy smokes!

Temperatures dipped down, in some places, to the coldest seen in an entire generation. Houston, TX woke up to lows in the upper teens, New Orleans bottomed out in the low 20s. Places further north were in the single digits. Some people living along the Gulf Coast are too young to have ever experienced mercury readings this cold.

And of course, "sea smoke" was witnessed in the Gulf.

When air temperatures fall so far below the sea surface temperatures of a body of water that steam starts to form, then you know it's cold!
