Do you use Gmail mail? What do you think of Google reading the content of your emails?
The Mail of Gmail, the most used in the world, had in mind since its launch that the content of its users was key in its strategy, and for this reason Google read automatically your emails to be able to take data and an algorithm decide which advertising was the most suitable for you at that time and show.
This was strongly criticized at first by privacy issues, but it was the way Google had to finance the tool to offer it at cost 0 to users. Time has shown that users have decided that "payment" they made in exchange for using an email system every day more refined was worth it.
A few days ago Google has announced that it will stop scanning the content of users emails, but what is the reason? It is not really clear but we can intuit two essential factors. The first is that the advertising inserted in the email is not offering good enough results to maintain them, if perhaps a few years ago but with the evolution of advertising all tools must evolve also to adapt to the reality of users.
Secondly, the use of their corporate tools, each time adopted by more companies, including myself, but the scanning of information could make many companies decide to use another company for their emails and thus avoid this lack of privacy.
Whatever the reason, the reality is that I like to see how Google continues to work to improve its products to bring them to a point of excellence, but obviously not achieve it yet, but that is part of innovation and business reinvention. Many times things that in the past worked today are no longer so interesting, and you have to know how to close business lines in time to be able to invest resources and time in more profitable ones that continue to build the sustainability of a business. That's digital transformation.
How would anyone know if they truly stopped reading their emails? I think it's better to get a new email...more secured private email.
