I came across a little painted turtle in the strawberry patch.

I think this is a grasshopper but it doesn't look like the ones I'm familiar with. I thought sure it would fly or jump as I closer to take a picture. No movement I thought odd. I then quickly realized is was not alive.

The grasshopper thing looks like a dragonfly larvae molt, it probably just hatched. Was there water nearby?

I couldn't find any photos to help me identify. It was on the edge of the marsh. So definitely water.. :D

Isnt it just I work in a big city but especially on a nice day like today I would be so uch happier out walking in a nice park with nature than stuck in the office

Ha the turt is raiding the strawberries. At least its a slow stoppable raid. I had a crew of peacocks raid my strawberry bed and the whole process took them 1 minute, they even ate the green ones.

I just had a look to see if I could i.d. your bug. I think it might be a dragonfly nymph. I mean, I have no idea, really — iNaturalist thinks it’s a southern hawker. Not to say their suggestions are always accurate, but after looking at some photos, it’s definitely not impossible.

INaturalist is fantastic — we usually use the identification tool as something like a starting point, and then research from there— there’s a lot more to the app, as well.

@annephilbrick the turtle was eyeing that plump strawberry but him being slow saved the strawberry. You take very pretty pictures, that is a weird looking grasshopper.
