Another beautiful sunny day in Bangkok city today , i decided to take the boat up stream along the Chao Phraya River of Bangkok to catch a bit of the cool breeze after riding the boat for about 30 minutes i hopped of at a pier called Tha Wang Lang Pier from this pier it was a short walk to the Siriraj Bimuksthan Museum but if i had got of at the next pier i would have been at the front door of the museum.
The museum is situated in Siriraj Hospital grounds in Bangkok the actual museum shows the history of Thai medicines and medical studies showing many figures of humans and animal skeletons and much more about all the famous medical professors and what they achieved. I actually thought it might have been a train museum but turned out to be more of a scientific museum.
Well i didn't find any other trains in that museum but there was this beautiful locomotive parked out front of the museum. This beautiful restored Mikado Steam Locomotive No.950 was manufactured by the Japan Association of Railway Industry and was bought to Thailand in 1950 and it is a 2-8-2 wheel type.
This locomotive use to be initially use to be operated on thermal wood energy before been converted to furnace oil. It use to used for towing trains along the hills of northern and northeastern parts of Thailand till it when out of service in 1982 now this ginger cat guards this massive powerful locomotive.
This beautiful Siriraj Hospital Temple was built on the grounds of the Siriraj Hospital by latest King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej for the Thai people to pray for there loved ones to recover in good health while been hospitalized.
These temple always leave me wondering how many man hours have gone into building these masterpieces and what i loved about this temple it was built with a water pool partially around the temple they believe that water will purifier and heal the sick and for the birds to have a drink.
Siriraj Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Thailand it is the primary teaching hospital of the Faculty of Medicine. It has a capacity of more then 2,000 beds and visited by more then three million patients per year.
The hospital was actually built in 1888 by King Chulalongkorn but has had a few face lifts over the time. This hospital became the residence for the late King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej for treatments of gall bladder surgery and respiratory condition and it was in Siriraj Hospital that the late King died on 13 th of October 2016. All around the hospital you can see and read his full life story showing how much he loved his people of Thailand and what he done for them a very much loved and respected King loved by all people of Thailand.
Today was a real learning day of interesting history of the Kingdom of Thailand and enjoy my walk around these enormous hospital premises. Time to jump on that taxi boat and head home. Hope you enjoyed walking around with me 😊
