Today, I'll be sharing some photos I took in mid April from my walk along a portion of the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway Trail in Harford County, Maryland. We entered the trail just over this little bridge near Craigs Corner Road and Stafford Road.
We (husband and I) decided to stop here for our walk to see if we could catch the bluebells in bloom. It had been a number of years since I'd last been here and often times we come in on the opposite end so it was nice to visit this side of the trail.
This is an easy trail to walk as it is flat with dirt and gravel and a small bridge here and there. It was nice to see a couple of benches along the way in case you need to take a break. It was also nice to just sit for a minute and take in the different sounds of birds, the water and the light rustling of trees from the slight breeze that we had.
There were a lot of these little flowers in bloom along the trail.
I knew when I saw this bridge in the distance that we were getting closer to the area where the bluebells would be.
Once over that bridge, we came to a smaller bridge and then we could see the Susquehanna River in the distance.
This was the area that we started to see the some blubells.
I think we were on the earlier end of the blubells blooming and, possibly, they would be in peak bloom within the week. It is hard to catch them in peak bloom with our weather here but when you do it is a beautiful sight. I think they are still beautiful though.
The water views here are beautiful also. Sometimes it is really muddy looking especially after a lot of rain but today it looked quite nice.
I made it to the 0.5 mile marker before deciding to turn around and head back.
A couple more photos of some patches of bluebells before leaving the area.
I spotted a big mushroom way up in a tree. It almost looks like a cut out piece of corrugated board but, I promise, it is an actual fungi! 😉
The water seen in this next photo is Deer Creek.
Now, this may look like an old fallen tree and it is... but there is still so much beauty in it! The moss growing on the fallen trunk, the dried roots and the small twigs reaching out almost appearing to keep guard over it among all of the flowers. Soon enough though it will be gone completely back to the earth.
This is very near where we started!
At this end of the trail, you can also see the Stafford Flint Furnace. If you would like to know more about this historic piece and see more photos of it then please feel free to check out a previous post I did on it here and or here.
A photo of Deer Creek taken from the back of the Stafford Flint Furnace.
This is the same little bridge in my first photo...
...and my last photo shows the main bridge over Deer Creek that we walked over to get to this end of the Heritage Greenway Trail and back to where we parked. 😊

Howdy deerjay! That is such a great park and walk, so much beautiful scenery! And that Susquehanna looks big, I guess all the rivers in the area are full and running fast with as much rainfall as everyone has been getting. I love that park!
Hi @janton and thank you! We sure have had our fair share of rain. I love going up to this area. The other side is where the Conowingo Dam is and where I normally go when up there but it's all very beautiful there. 😊
wow, the Conowingo Dam..ya'll have some unusual names up there! That has to be an Indian name I'm sure. Well where ever places you're going they sure are picturesque!
