The #WednesdayWalk challenge by @tattoodjay asks you to go for a short walk and get some photos of the things you see.
Despite the warm temperatures, there is a feeling of fall in the air and lots of signs that autumn is imminent. All these photos were taken this morning on my walk.
This red bellied woodpecker was busy down by the water. The river is in flood stage and this is an area that is normally dry, but right now all the water is contributing to a ridiculous number of mosquitos.
There are beginning to be a lot of leaves on the ground. I couldn't even see the flagstone path this morning.
But the flowers on the deck are still lovely!

Thanks! I have three different kinds of woodpeckers that are frequent visitors at my feeders. I get such a nice selection of birds here in the woods.
I have not seen woodpeckers in the Philippines, but we have many other great birds. I have been very close to the Philippine Eagle, but have not yet got a great photo.

I have been as closer or closer than 30 feet. Just not quick enough on the draw. Lol! I also don’t have a good camera with a Telephoto lense.
I have one , but it is not my camera of choice these days. I have a Canon Powershot that has a 50x zoom and it is easy to carry along. It always seems like with the other camera I have the wrong lens on for the shot that I want. This one is much more versatile and easier for me to use.
On my list! I have always had a decent camera Bach in the film days, but have yet to get a great digital camera.

I hope it's another month before we get a killing frost, but I'm afraid that's just wishful thinking, probably a few more weeks. But the way the weather has been so weird, who knows, they might last till Christmas!

Thanks! I have really enjoyed their color all summer. I am so tired of mosquitoes. My neighbor just said this morning that she can't even go out and walk her dog because they are so bad.
Ooooh! it's horrible!!!! I read on the Internet that from mosquitoes it is possible to get rid if to plant in a garden and before windows of the house certain plants which they do not like. for example, mint, rosemary, lemongrass, lavender ... in that article several such plants were listed
That would not have much impact here. There's a pond, a creek and a river within feet of my house and lots of wooded area with undergrowth. I think I would need to plant acres of herbs to keep them away. I do have mint, rosemary and lavender planted, but everyone in this entire part if the country is having horrible mosquito problems. I saw that the mail lady has even taken to wearing mosquito netting hanging from her hat!
Oh oh oh!!!!!! it's really terrible !!!!!! I sympathize with you !!!!! I hope soon they will be less because winter is approaching

I have never seen the woodpeckers that live in California. I would love to. There are three kinds that live here in the woods that come to my feeders. This one is called a red-bellied woodpecker, but I also have hairy woodpeckers and Downy woodpeckers, both of which are smaller and are black and white.
howdy there melinda010100! hey how far is the river from your house? A long ways? I suppose ya'll are liking fall. We haven't seen a single thing that would indicate fall down here. it was 96 degrees today too!
It was raining here today in the temperature never got above 75. The river is not real far away. I think maybe 80 feet or so.
There is a spring in my yard that forms a little pond and then a short fast flowing creek that flows under my bedroom windows and into the river. But the river banks are wooded , and when there are leaves on the trees I don't have a river view. It's only this time of year when the leaves begin to fall that I can see the river again, and rhen I get to enjoy it all winter. It doesn't ever freeze where my creek flows into the river and so that open water attracts eagles and lots of ducks and geese and I enjoy my river view then a lot! There is a steep bluff directly across the river, and just downsteam from that, a large park that is closed to traffic in the winter, so it is a lovely place to be! Is that more than you wanted ti know? Ha!

Looks like autumn is taking over already! I'd love to see and observe a woodpecker one day. There's a walnut three at my dad's, woodpeckers love it but I need some special lenses to watch and capture them.
I have 3 different kinds of woodpeckers that visit my feeder. It is fun to watch them.

The mail lady has begun wearing mosquito netting and my neighbors have quit walking their dogs. It's pretty awful.
Sorry to hear that! We're lucky that way, there's a plane flying above the city and doing the work so we don't have to suffer because of the mosquitoes. But this is not the case in other cities or villages.
I'm lucky, I'm not allergic to them, just don't like them "singing" into my ear. The test of the family is terrified of them.
