Food is really the most common language in humanity. It nourishes us, defines us, connects us, and has the potential to make us happy or dissatisfied.
When we talk about food, we find so much more than epic flavors, ingredients, and textures. I learn about tradition, about relationships, about memories, about cultural similarities and differences.
Think about it. Food is often used to mark special occasions, like birthdays, baby showers, weddings, new births, graduations, anniversaries, etc. It can also be offered as a comfort to someone who is going through a period of mourning. People can also control how they have their mealtimes, and food morphs from a mere necessity into an enabler of healthy conversation, in which families and friends catch up and share experiences.
I guess that's what makes me so passionate about food.

Hi there! I am a recent college graduate, I just ended my first career because I have big dreams of starting a successful fashion blog. I am currently unemployed and working on building content for my blog. This is our second post, and probably the most meaningful video my husband and I have ever made. In order to get to this point, we both quit our jobs, moved our family over several state lines, shed our suburban-born skins, and are doing our best to learn how to emerge as booted, flannel-clothed, homesteading butterflies. We're doing all we can to take responsibility for our own finances, family, health, food needs, and water as we scratch out a self-sustainable homestead in the Ozarks! We have a LOT of ground to cover as we try to learn all the skills that most folks used to know until about 150 years ago, but it's worth the adventure for sure!
The online homesteading and DIY community has been an amazing support and teacher through this. We are glad that we can contribute back by sharing our story, successes and ..."learning moments." And we're so happy to be here.

After the passing of my best friend, I went from living a carefree life as an American girl in Europe roaming from one movie set to the next on the back of my boyfriend’s motorcycle to returning home to the United States to deal with the loss of someone I have long called a sister. Since then, I’ve tried to spend as much time with my family and friends as possible, especially my brothers, who I was close to growing up. When an annual horror movie convention that they attend every year came to town, I decided to go with them. It was the topic of my first post on Steemit. I wrote about one of my first travel experiences here in China. It's a memory that's stayed with me for three reasons:
The two other foreigners I was traveling with two of the closest friends I've met here. They've since departed China.
It's the biggest holiday in China and I got to spend it with a Chinese family. It was a good feeling to be so warmly received and see the culture from within.
Fireworks. Exploding everywhere. All over the city I was in. Who could forget that?

Today I received this auto-mated reply to one of my posts and thought why not give it a shot and share that same post here with other newer members of the community.
One of the members who I follow asked a question about emoji's and why they're not really easy to use - There's no GUI or dropdown on steem yet to add emoji's to your story.
So I did up a quick and short list of some smiley face emoji and a few other random ones along the HTML input for the unicodes. I also added a link to the emojipedia so you can go and grab other ones you may like and add them to your stories.
All you have to do is copy the HTML code and end it with a semi-colon and bingo you get a cool little emoji for your story : )

Hello @reggaemuffin , I saw your comment on my introducing myself video. I just made a second post and after I came to check this out. Lately I've been really into cryptocurrency and thats how I discovered steemit so I'm still figuring stuff out but I did my researsh. After looking into steem I found my love for social media wich I lost a few years ago. I think this is what social media should look like! So I was very excited about posting blogs on steemit.
