Starting a New Chapter - Ready to Soar ...

in #welcome5 years ago (edited)

I feel I need to recap as I have been absent for a while and feel almost new on the blogging scene.

Its been a very interesting few years in the studious fields of Philosophy and Creative writing ...

I started my writing journey on Steemit in 2015 through my friend @michelle-gent who, incidentally, has drawn my attention back into the field of blogging here. Thanks Michelle.

Its been a long road since then. My passion for writing got stronger so I wrote my first book in 2016, then signed up for a degree in creative writing. It may be considered that perhaps I did that the wrong way round, I do have a habit of over complicating things at times. However I have come to an understanding with my gremlin possessed mind that if I feel the need to write, I write! There and then, no waiting for some kind of authority.

Creativity doesn't work like that.

I have learned a hell of a lot about writing in this time. 1) I still hate editing. 2) My strengths are in first narration fiction- although I am not too bad at poetry and 3) I struggle with confidence in my ability, even though I'm heading for an upper class degree.

So lets fast forward to now - Four years on and I have finished the creative writing part of my degree, but I am yet to finish a final module to complete my BA. I had a choice to add on another field of study and I chose philosophy, much to the horror of close family and friends - I am told I over use the word 'why' and never give it a rest.

Thankfully, I am still married and have friends.

Anyway, why I am returning to blogging? Oh yes ...

On the eve of the final onslaught of assignment posting for this year, I got my first copy writing job.

My first proper paid (external) writing gig ... I wasn't even looking for any work, but it found me, so I am very fortunate. I have also sold more books in the last few months than anticipated, particularly as I haven't done anything to encourage it, and it has given me a kick to finish off more stories! ( I write fiction, although I do have one non-fiction exercise book)

In this time Michelle showed me a link to this site ... so here I am!

As the universe appears to be pushing me into writing, writing and more writing, I have questions for all you wonderful people ...

What can I bring to this wonderful platform? What interests you, what can I write about, and who wants to be my HIVE buddy ?

I want to apologise for filling the news feed with my mug, but I wont. I'm trying to be more brave. I have recruited someone to help me with PR and I know for a fact that he will tell me I have to start putting my face out there and I can tell you that thought fills me with dread. First steps ...

I am interested in philosophy and creative writing (obviously), plant based lifestyles and I am also a colour therapist .

Thank you all ... have a wonderful day and please spread the love in these strange times.

This is me if you haven't gathered

welcome back!

I find that I like editing when I make it a constant thing. I edit while I write, and I edit whenever I read my work. It probably helps that I read my work a lot before I share it! I never sit down to edit. And the result is usually something I'm very happy with! It's probably different when you have a publisher and everything, but I'm happy DIY... Maybe I need to get that PR guy though haha

Haha. If it works, it works... who cares! Glad you enjoy it. I have the odd sincere moment where it gives a slight sense of enjoyment, but it doesn’t happen often.

The PR is my attempt at getting more into a rhythm, on track and having some kind of accountability. I have already called him a shin kicker and we haven’t even got moving yet!

I need that extra push from someone who understands media and the industry, otherwise coasting is my favourite option.

Thankyou for your comments, and for being my first ‘welcome back’ buddy.

Have a great day
