Funny you should say that. This was written about my first relationship and how I acted, and that's almost six years ago. I just went through a breakup last week and through my poetry I was seeing how I act just the same way as I used to. It's insane how my poetry is the best form of therapeutic insight! Thanks for the feedback :)

No worries matey. This was very obviously a break-up poem but a decent example of one. They are so often a little too raw to be anything other than personal catharsis. But this poem had a great extended metaphor and was more than just a personal expression of pain. It's hard to analyse a poem that is so personal so I will leave it there. I get what you mean about finding insight through the writing process. I experience that to, both in my poetry and fiction.

I appreciate the feedback. Yeah, I suppose when the wounds are too fresh, it would be hard to do anything more than 'raw' poetry, but that's fine too. After all, the primary role of writing is expressing oneself, even if done in a poor or a too personal manner ;)
