My grandfather’s cousin, Red Meaner, had scarlet fever when he was a child and he wasn’t quite all there.
Red Meaner wasn’t a very good swimmer, but he always had high hopes of swimming all the way across a river near his home town.
When Red was a young man, he swam halfway across the Ohio river where it crosses in Marietta between West Virginia and Ohio, only to turn around when he started to get worn out.
He made it halfway across but didn’t think he could make it the whole way.
So he turned around and swam back to West Virginia where he had started. 
Everybody always used to laugh at Red over that.
