Should Steemit Inc Impose Maximum Daily Post Limit in order to Control Reward Pool Rape?

in #whalepower7 years ago (edited)

Most of us are aware of the notorious civil war going on between @berniesanders and @haejin –mainly because @berniesanders want @haejin to reduce his daily 10 Post s- where he earn average of 300SBD on each post while many earn very little or sometimes nothing. This resulted to brutal attacks from both parties leading to flag wars which if not controlled will spread to many innocent people and bring a bad name to steemit platform. Conversely, however, this is a complex issue because many top stakeholder in steemit are guilty of raping the reward system- therefore @haejin should not be the only victim because he is taking advantage of the system rather Steemit Inc should do a constructive due diligence and resolve the issue in the next HFork 20 – here are some few points to note:
Note: there are many issues with steemit reward system however, for the purpose of this article; I will concentrate on post limit ( resteem this post in order for other people to join the discussion).

Pic Source

Post Limit: Imagine steemit reaching 50 to 100M+ users (this is achievable in 3 years’ time) and many members flooding the system with 5 to 10+daily posts? This will lead to flooding of the system with less quality posts. Reason is that it takes time to write a top quality post or make a top video. Therefore, solution might be to impose daily post limit for example, 2 posts max per account (this is just a suggestion-feel free to add yours in the comment section). The advantage is that people will concentrate on improving quality of their 1 or 2 max posts, reduction of flooding of popular tags and reduction of raping the reward system with one account. On the other hand, this will lead to increase in individuals having multiple accounts for the purpose of vote sharing- which is a disadvantage however less issue because such accounts have to be popular like the original account plus link to all the vote sharing from individuals accounts .

Quality not quantity: People always reward quality contents and not amount of posts. Therefore it is better to pull all materials together in 1 or 2 posts and send out a top quality post than dividing it into 5 to 10 short posts in order to take advantage of the system.

Engaging with People: Important thing in posting here is to respond to people who usually comment on your posts and reward good comments-thus motivating new members to comment prudently. I wonder how someone with 5 to 10+ daily posts will respond to all people that commented on his/her posts!.

Now is your turn, what do you think about the issue? send in your comments, would you upvote in order to send in your support and resteem in order for other people to join the discussion.

Limiting posts is not an option, it would shut down the door on short form post use-cases (Zapple comes to mind). Also, Steemit Inc cannot impose a limitation on the blockchain level, it has to be approved by the witnesses (steemit doesn't own the blockchain).

O Yes... Good Point. FOLLOWING YOU!!

I think your suggestion is appropriate but would probably only shift the problem. The reason folks can rape the rewards pool is twofold.

  • They have a LOT of followers/voters
  • They have a few VERY wealthy followers/voters

The problem is that anyone can create a post or comment (regardless of quality) AND IF someone with a lot of Steem Power up-votes the post at full power they will recieve a LOT of money, as in hundreds of dollars. I saw one comment that earned ~$345 with just 4 up-votes and 3 were insignificant.

The reason this exists is because the folks who invest a LOT of fiat currency into the Steem platform expect and mostly deserve a return on their investment. If you could accept the risk and had a million $US to invest you could use that money to power up to a level that would allow you to self-vote or up-vote a second account at a rate that would earn far more than a conventional investment. This extra return is due to the extra risk.

That million $US is also what gives the rest of us solvency, i.e. it creates trust in the crypto-currency. NO currency has value unless enough people BELIEVE it does.

So, it's a tricky problem not confined to this platform. The folks with lots of money will always use that power to their advantage. The result is the rest of us get to eat off the crumbs. You know, they give us jobs, etc.
Many, maybe most, of the big investors (stakeholders) are in it for the long term, others are raping the rewards pool in the short term. But just like the fiat currency world while the rich folks do their thing the rest of us get to do ours, like eke out an existence. For this post to have earned $155+ with 40+ votes you know well how the game is played. BE happy, you're one of the successful ones.

this is quite interesting. I am really, really new here, so I am just learning what everything is about. This clearly written comment is helpful! I appreciate it

Thanks, I encourage you to just have fun. Read posts you like, make comments that are honest, and forget about the money part of things. If you have something to post then post it but understand that only your "Followers" will probably see it so don't be discouraged. And now you know why it's important to gain followers.

Very good comment ,your are correct . However the issue is not about people who invested in steem power rather posting 5 to 10+ daily and if imposing posting limit will help solve the issue.

Let's hope it gets fixed!

Finally a voice of reason. Thank you.

When you have a $1k under your mouse click - it is hard to resist and not click on your own content.

Here is another way to think about it.

Imagine that you are using social network and communicating with person who is a billionaire or at least millionaire and this person is really busy. One hour for this person is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. For most of us it is unfair but for this person it is just a small reward for wasting her time and commenting for you.

I only wish I had a $1k mouse click!

The funny thing is that last year I also only could have dreamed thy my vote is worth more than nothing. I needed few months to increase that number to few bucks. At the beginning it is awesome then you get used to it and now it is even worse - you can not resist on self-voting. 😉

Dream big and do at least something. I'm learning and wish that some day my click would be worth $1k, too. 👊

Here's my 2 cents worth, or is it 3 cents now!

Maybe now. 😀

I do appreciate all random acts of kindness! ;-)

I also think steemit inc. as you put it and the Devs . Need to step in here and try to do something about this for the future betterment of Steemit as a whole ! We need this platform to be a thriving happy inviroment ( I cant spell at 6 am lol!) in order to succeed , especially after hard fork 20 When its going to make it much easier for everyone to join Steemit !! We will soon have millions of steemians , then look out !! Great post @charles1 ! Keep up the great work my friend !upped and resteemed 👍👍👍😀

Welcome and sleep well. Thanks for your comment

Your welcome !😴😴😴

sweet dream nice lady...dream of 1M steem power and SBD 👍👍👍😀

There used to be a 4 Post per day max and then you would start losing rewards for the 5th post. You were allowed to post more but the rewards for doing so fell.

Good point indeed

Yes I Remember That!!

It does make sense. Could be abused

seems like a good one,

I like the idea of limiting the number of posts per day to maybe 2-4. I struggle to do even one per day most weeks so it wouldn't affect me any but there are a lot of others whose activity here would be impacted and maybe that's a good thing.

I also have a tendency to unfollow people who start clogging my feed with low quality content but the barrage of so many posts per day by a single author definitely still clogs the other feeds and it's hard to find good material.

A quality post usually takes some time to create so if someone is already creating high quality posts then it's very likely consuming a lot of that person's time just creating 1 or 2 posts per day.

If I'm not going to put time and effort into putting something on steemit then I usually don't bother with it. I haven't posted much this week (I have 3 posts within the last 7 days I think) but last week I managed 10 which is a record for me. I was at work less than normal that week so I had more time for it and a lot of inspiration apparently.

I don't care if someone earns a lot here but if they're doing so every day with very similar content every day multiple times per day that's getting into a gray area. I'm not taking a definitive stance on the bernie / haejin situation because I don't want to get dragged into the drama but I do lean towards 10 posts per day being a bit much, especially with the rewards being what they are.

Same here. If the daily limit were 3 posts per day I would struggle to achieve it. I'm a caregiver to my wife's elderly parents so I have plenty of time to punch out posts, but not quality posts.

I Agree, Maybe Some Regulation Is Needed! Thanks For Sharing! FOLLOWING YOU!!

You are correct, thanks for your comment.

@cryptokeepr Thanks for this reply. Still new and 2-4 posts per day sounds like a challenging task if you're truly adding valuable content. I've obsessively read through countless posts and the majority are well articulated ideas. It would be great to know any of your current fave whales or dolphins. Cheers!

I agree..lets do 2 posts max limits

I agree.if this is not addressed steemit will crash

I fully agree with you on the limitation of posting.
Actually there was a limitation at first.
Now it's needed to adapt it again

Thank you for your comment my dear @slowwalker ...hopefully they will limit it to 2 max a day so people will focus on quality and not quantity..I wish you a blessed week...My latest post analysed steem intrinsic value, feel free to see it. Thanks and more success.

I'm too new here to fully appreciate this post, but from my DXGold days I can tell you that there is no end to the ingenious ways that people with little or no self-discipline will take advantage of a good thing to spoil it for everyone else. Making rules and relentless and unmerciful enforcement of them is the only thing that greed-driven people understand in my experience.

You are absolutely correct...thanks for your comment

I liked the 2 to 4 post a day policy they had in the past. I honestly don't know how people are ab;e to put up more quality posts than that.

Good point, I even prefer 2 max daily so people will have time to respond and support other people posts

Really good point since I never managed to post more that one time per day.

For a human being it's useless. Maybe, it can be of use for a project, still digests can be created to summarise daily content.

Maybe, It's not pleasant to hear but Steemit becomes famous not for society but for the ability to make money with several fotos per day.

"Steemit becomes famous not for society but for the ability to make money with several fotos per day."
Perfectly stated!

Good point,I hope the issue will be solved sooner than later

Thanks for this informative post.
I am still finding my away around, and learning about the many layers of steemit.
With that said, I am still learning what qualifies as a quality post, I do my best to include useful information, and references for people who want to learn more about the topics I am talking about.
As a minnow it hurts my heart to see the whale wars, I have a hard time imagining making it to that level just to use my reputation to harm others.
Ah well people are weird, throw rocks at them.

Quality depends on the reader ...Originality, consistency and educative posts will be considered quality posts .

Is there a reputation/followers/posts level criteria that says one has reached "whale" level? Or is it a subjective designation. Maybe the wake they leave behind?

I believe to qualify as a whale you need to reach a certain level of wallet value.

This is one of the most important issues for the platform: I wasn't aware there used to be a limit on number of posts per day that could be rewarded - going back to that would be a good idea.

And yr right about lots of people 'raping the rewards pool' - many 70+ people in here are doing just that.

Good point, I hope that the issue will be resolved asap. Thanks for your comment.

There seems to be a lot of pointless posting here. Also, many just regurgitate information they found somewhere else with no regard to the fact that the same information was posted here 100 times already. See the 50 Cent finding his forgotten Bitcoins as an example. It really takes time and effort to create original and compelling content. I think 1 to 2 posts should be enough per day. If more are posted they should not get any rewards.

Which brings up a question I have had. My first posts were I think of high quality, but due to my minnow status had very few views. If I posted them again at some point in the future, like when I'm a whale, would that be a bad thing?

If you had interesting ideas already shared several months ago you can easily create a post about those ideas but with new points or to write them in a different way.

Some ideas are worth repeating but not in a copy paste manner.

Yes as it will be considered plagiarism and chetah will attack

It's not plagiarism if @chuck2u32 was the original author of the content.

He was just wondering if it would be bad to re-post something down the road that didn't get any visibility when it was originally posted the first time due to his minnow status. At least, I think that's what he was saying.

You are correct, sir. It is my own work. I would just like to re-post it later to draw more discussion.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm thinking it was just a simple misunderstanding on @charles1's part.

Yes right ,users should post quality content not quantity .I am seeing here many post are useless .such posts have no aim and purpose .users should post and upvote only quaily content.

@Berniesanders has been quite vocal about @haejin abusing the reward pool. I feel his posts are of absolute zero value. A 4 post per day limit should be done. They had it earlier, but removed it now.

Good point...I will even prefer 2 posts max daily ..thanks for your comment

For a long time, there was a reward limit to 4 posts. We could post more, but rewards were not available for the 5th post and beyond. I don’t see any reason not to use that again.

I agree. Good point indeed.

I suppose that the old rules of steemit should be reinstated, that is, in the early stages of steemit, the maximum post is 4 post per day, so it is very effective for all users, and for those who want to write more than 4 posts, be careful and prepare for post tomorrow.

Good point..I even prefer 2 max

oooh yeah,that right
of course
if 2 max ,very nice and interest fo steemit, that as efective

This issue of multiple post per day is a serious thing, how can I read and upvote 5 post from only one person, which time will I have for myself and others. In my opinion one post per day is cool. Nice one bro.

Welcome ..some even post 10 times daily ...

Good posts. Limiting to 2 posts max daily is idea
Thanks for sharing this

I agree 100% with what you said @charles1 , i agree with quality vs. quantity, it's main thing i am focusing on since i join and i strongly believe we all should have it in mind. It's a great initiative to create only 2 really great and quality post daily when we will be so many steemians soon and involve more in socializing and getting involved in others life and actions and show your help and support.. i hope you have now and will have in future too, influence over the future of steemit.

Good point, thanks for your comment

This post has received gratitude of 4.25 % from @appreciator thanks to: @charles1.

We used to have a daily post limit of 4 I think. It's not a bad idea to bring it back, because who can honestly say they write more than 4 good posts a day? Maybe one day you have more time to write posts than the other, but if that's the case, you can always save a few and quickly upload them, spread across the week. I would definitely be pro post limit of 3-4 a day.

Yeah Good Point Quality Can Also Go Down If You All The Time!! FOLLOWING YOU!!

You are right, I agree.

I think that they should not limit posts/day, rather they should for example make only first 3 posts for payout, for the others there should not be possible to get rewards, I thought about that before and I think thats a good idea.
I hope you understand what I try to tell you, sorry for my bad english.

Interesting Option! Thanks For Sharing!Sounds like you've thought about this a lot!!! FOLLOWING YOU!!

This is a good option indeed, thanks for your comment

Thank you both :D

wow..nice post. i like it..

what do you like about the post ..bot?

Wow...nice post

Did you read the post , bot?

Best regards for your post dear @whalepower

what is good about the post bot?

Good thinking charles1. Thanks for this.

Finally REAL SOLUTIONS suggested.

Its like bitco?
Thanks

Bot did you read the post?

It seems to me that it escapes from some proposals of users to help us: to give value to the network while it gives back some help, especially to people who live in countries at risk and with overwhelming poverty, and thanks to steemit I was able to buy food for my home and celebrate my birthday, however there are publications where I do not really get any reward

did you read the post bot?

I really buy into the idea of limiting the number of posts to two per day cos like you highlighted, it takes a large amount of time to create a quality post, so there are a lot of unecessary and less quality posts making it difficult to actually comment and get to meet people..

That is interesting, A lot of people say decentralized is always better... which is not the case. The main benefit is anonymity, but anonymity is not everything especially when others suffer from decentralization. I don't know if daily limit on posts is the answer because anyone in their position would probably be posting more than a few a day.

Thanks for the post!

good .. very in its word

Decay sets in the minute monetary value is involved, sadly it is part of human nature.

I totally agree 2 posts per day would take a lot of pressure off of everyone.

Those reading and participating, connecting to others (or trying to) loose out on time, creating posts, but make some great new connections....

Social Media all in all has been on the same circle and cycle for some time, you have those who will connect and communicate, others are on a hit and run, building without actually being social at all.

Thanks for insight into this discussion @charles1

Thank you for this post. I'm a total newbie and trying to take it all in is a little daunting. Your clear writing has helped me understand a question I have had about steemit.

If there is a survey or poll, I will definitely vote "yes" for such limitation of daily post. Every 2 hourly posts are just taking away rewards from hard working mango people of this community.

I agree completely

I think 3 posts a day would be fair, morning noon and evening, have Time spacing in between!

Rather than imposing posting limits, I think the problem is more to do with the upvote bots, whales and general low quality content which gets high rewards.

I find it stupid that a photo of a cat, no text or anything, just a photo can amass over $100 or $1000, whilst a well written article which someone spent hours on, writing, researching and editing, may get under $1.

The issue is that the ones with the most power have the most control. I don't personally believe that imposing based on number of posts per day addresses the problem at large.

If say we could find a way to discourage people using upvote bots, and / or posting junk, then that is a far better solution. Which honestly, the not upvoting junk by people will lessen the amount of junk, as if it not being upvoted, then there is less incentive to post junk.

Let me know what you guys think, happy to be convinced otherwise :)

Great post - I too am in favor of the 2 post per day limit.
I checked out some of the top "superwhales'" posts today and I was amazed at what I found. I thought they would all have awesome, highly informative and beautiful blogs.
What I found was the exact opposite. I would be ashamed to publish such a lame post. It seems that they have a network of followers who go around and upvote each others posts constantly. Sort of an elite jillionaire club raking in thousands a week for crappy posts.
Don't get me wrong, that isn't the case with some of them who got where they are by the quality and quanity of their posts.
I also noticed that they make just as much or more by replying to comments on their simple posts. { thanks = 40 bucks...thanks alot= 40 more bucks...thank you= 40 more...etc.etc.}
When you have 300 comments on each post, and 10 posts per day, you can see how that adds up.
Is this abuse of the system? I honestly don't know.

good information.. ^_^
