This was what we saw after we landed into Darwin....what a way to start our holidays....The guide told us that it is very common to find some 'ran away' crocodiles even in the street / road / inside the bigger drain. Not sure if he is trying to scare us or alert us to be careful when in Darwin.
We joined the "Spectacular Jumping Crocodile" tour. And we truly enjoyed it but fearful when we realized that anything can happen if these ferocious crocodiles decide to attack the boat. Not a big boat as we need to go near the swamp to see the eggs and their nests.
After seeing how a crocodile egg looks like, we steered into deeper water and the boat man took out a piece of meat and fixed it on to a pole and dangled it to draw the crocodile near.
Now for a closed up picture taken by my husband. He is not afraid to put his hands out.
Well I am a 'scary cat' as I have been called, I do not actually feel safe on board. When I saw the crocodile in such a closed up environment, my imagination ran wild, what if the boat capsized and we are in the crocodile invested water. Everyone was leaning on one side of the boat trying to captured a closed up picture....I was on the other side trying to balance and of course praying hard.
Just look at the size of this croc!!. Now you believe me when I say if a few comes together, the boat can capsize. They are supposed to jump up and catch the meat. But I guess due to it's size, too heavy to jump really up. It just stretched its body out of the water.
Now we on the crocodile farm, which allowed us to hold the small baby croc if you wish.
Now wasn't that exciting, I was happy and glad that we make it back to shore with no incident. I asked the guide and boat man if there have been any unfortunately accident for these tours. He was evasive in his answer and joked that because these crocs were fed by so many of these tours that they are not that hungry. He forgot that there are also so so many crocs since it is an open river, and I am sure there are plenty who are hungry for any meat available.
I supposed he might be right as I have not heard through the news if there have been any mishap for these tours. Glad to have the opportunity to experience it and if any of you do go to Darwin, do sign up for this tour.
More post coming, so watch out and enjoy. All photos are original from my automatic camera (2006).

Wow, that looks exciting. How close were the crocodiles to your boat?
I think maybe 2 -3 meters away from the side of the boat. I really cannot tell as I moved away to the other side. Too close for comfort.
