in #wikitruth β€’ 5 years ago

Airplanes have made traveling across the world easier, faster, and safer. However, travel companies have taken advantage of this business in some nefarious ways

In today's issue, we take a peek behind the scenes and figure out this flying mess.

1 - AirFares Are All For Air

According to The Associated Press, JetBlue's prices for passengers who fly by air are higher than the lowest price at any other United competitor on the industry's best pricing website, AirfareCompare.com. In fact, those two flights are even cheaper. From April 2013 to February 2014, the JetBlue plane was on average cheaper to fly than the cheapest American or European, or any other, airlines.

The reason for this difference is simple: AirfareCompare's pricing algorithm treats air travel expenses differently to those on every other airline's marketplace, making AirfareCompare prices for airlines with lower fares appear higher than those of rivals.

2 - JetBlue and Virgin are Incompetent and Uncompetitive

On August 28th, 2011, both JetBlue and Virgin had to change their prices and offer more competitive fares. The JetBlue fares were based on an estimate of how much passengers will spend and for how long on that flight. By this method, JetBlue's rate matched that of other competing air carriers, who were looking to cut fares to attract more customers.

3 - JetBlue, JetBlue, Jet-Who?

JetBlue's fares were higher than Virgin's prices, but also considerably higher than the price of airfare on the average American-domiciled airline. This explains why two other major cities offered low fares β€” Seattle and Nashville did β€” and why some people felt jet-fare-fares in these cities were cheap.

The reality is that JetBlue fares are still higher than a lot of other competing airlines. The American Association of Airport Commuters (AAA), by contrast, reports that airfare prices have remained consistent for nearly 10 years. On February 26, 2015, AAA asked the federal government to make sure these costs can be measured, if they remain the same, as long as there was "compelling evidence" that they are "strenuous" or "uncompetitive."

When it comes to traveling by air, you should pay attention to who's asking you for what. There's some really important rules, both inside and outside the airport...

Traveling on the phone is allowed anywhere but on airplanes. And there's some serious restrictions, like not flying in a passenger van (with an attached bed in case of emergencies). You're also prohibited from carrying your luggage, like on land, so you can't put in your valuables and stuff into your backpack unless you have a designated driver to bring them to your destination.

Airport officials also don't get paid in airport parking, in contrast to in-miles and miles-per-hour. You may have heard of the "cash only" policies -- although, the reality is, those may be more for security reasons to prevent people from using debit cards. Travelers do get in free, but that's a long way from "free" if you don't arrive at your destination with a valid receipt (and a ticket and driver registration, if you're a student).

So, with summer coming upon us, if you plan on traveling, we at WikiTruth recommend: Pay attention, and stay safe!
