Up until about a month ago, I'd never even heard of a skink, let alone realized that we have lizards here in British Columbia. But then a friend posted a video of one that they found while camping, and about a week later, I stumbled upon some information about them in a reptile display at a museum, and learned that they can be found in at least three provinces. Then lo and behold, while hiking last week, I actually encountered one for the first time in my life! It stuck around long enough for me to take a few pictures, but it didn't want to be picked up. Which was probably a good thing, because I later found out that they can bite :)
