THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 26 - MEDITERRANEAN HOUSE GECKO

in #wild-man7 years ago

Geckos! Crazy cool nocturnal little wall-climbers!

The Mediterranean house gecko (Hemidactylus turcicus) is a cool little gecko that can be found all around the world. Originating in the Mediterranean, they have now been naturalized worldwide in the warmer parts of the world.

Feeding almost exclusively on insects, these cute little reptiles remind us of tiny crocodiles. They are completely nocturnal, and, like many rodents, they like to make their homes where people live. Like many other kinds of lizards, they can detach their tails when they feel threatened, and regrow a new one. The new one will never be as long as the original, but it still grows back.

Their small bodies and wall-climbing abilities make it easy for them to not only hide, but also to hunt. These are one of my all time favorite creatures, and I am blessed to be back in Texas at the moment where I can find some of these once again. For more info on them, check out the video below and enjoy!

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

Man you'd have fun with all the critters we have in Florida.

I know, thinking about a trip actually.

Well if you decide to head towards the Disney area. We'd be happy to put you up for a day or two.
We live about 45 minutes away from mouseworld.
We also have Lego Land not even five minutes from our house.

I was secretly waiting for that little guy to jump on your face...BTW I know you have some funny bloopers from all these animals. You should do a @papa-pepper bloopers video. Just an idea. ;)

LOL - Good point. It could be fun! Most actually happen in one take, and most of the retakes are due to load children.

There is a 1/5 chance that a kid will disrupt while filming every time. Thats why converted one of them into a camera man. He doesn't always hold the camera still, but he is learning. Now there is only a 1/4 chance for interruption. (winking noise)

You always make us feel like we were there with you. Thanks @papa-pepper

That is so cool. I am glad to hear that you feel that way!

That's amazing how it stayed on your finger for 3 minutes without moving man! Normally they run so quickly!
Impressed!

This little guy doesn't look like a threat. Is the one shown in your video about as big as they get?

Oh what a cutie! When we lived in East Texas we used to get little albino ones all the time. They're so fun :D

You like creepy animals, and the bunny ? well.. hanging out with that bunch makes it kind of creepy too... nice to meet You, Nic from Amsterdam here. PS what means "going from the gecko" Followed You @nicnicy

I love geckos! I didn't realize they were so widespread throughout the world. Surprising also that they have high resistance to pesticides, but encouraging that they do. We need more geckos, less pesticides!
As I recall from a visit to Hana Maui, they like to have loud 'conversations' with each other in the middle of the night!

Was looking forward to this such a cool post
I had forgot about the tails but remember it now

Also remember in Singapore it was Cindy very bad luck to ever hurt a gecko

I think these are found in Kings Palaces like the scriptures speak of.

The video is what was missing from the last post!

@papa-pepper you are clone of Bear gryll

I was hoping to be at least a little better....

LOL at the BG comments hahahaha!!!

I went back to an older post here as usual hoping you would see this but here is my post about my shirts arriving and thanking you and carefully picking my wording there about MAYBE possibly but not for sure (LOL) running another one of these contest with you.

I am not making a lot on here - so I am still limited $$ wise but LMK if you want to do this again...

The pattern on its tail and body looks amazing. Wish I could see one upclose and personal.

Hey that looks creepy indeed.

Geckos are awesome little reptiles! I have a pair that lives on my porch, I see them just chillin' on my walls at night.

They can startle you a bit, if you are not used to them, I know. And the thought that they propably sit under your bed and hunt while you sleep is kind of weird, but in fact its a good thing since they eat mosquitos and other bugs.
And they can even walk upside down on the ceiling - here is a picture I made in my room in Brasil:

There are so many lizards I have just never heard of. Lol. Thank you for showing me this lil guy! I always love to check out your Wild Man videos! As always very awesome sir! Thank you! : )
