THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 39 - AMERICAN BULLFROG

in #wild-man7 years ago

Large and in charge!

These frogs almost look like freaks of nature, almost. Many of you may remember dissecting one in biology class or perhaps nibbling on their legs at a local buffet.

The American Bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) is an incredible "true frog." When you combine their appetite, size, and aggressive behavior, you have the king of the pond. They will eat just about any creature that will fit into their mouths including other amphibians, reptiles, rodents, insects, birds, and even bats!

These frogs can lay up to around 20,000 eggs, plus their tadpoles can take years to develop. Want to know more? Check out the video below.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

Well Look at that little guy! My boys had some fun with a horny toad at the paragliding launch site yesterday. Funny because as i was editing the video I was thinking about @papa-pepper. LOL

Thanks @captainobviou3! I upvoted your comment at 100% to encourage others to make real comments. Too many do not, but we need real interaction, not replies like "Nice post... NOW GIVE ME AND UPVOTE!" I would love to meet a Horny Toad one day!

You crack me up man. LOL

True story!

My favorite part of the bullfrog are the eyes, they give it a sci-fi look to it, it's almost hypnotizing lol.

I always have some jumping around in my front lawn. Do they also eat spiders, like black widows for example?

I know that they will eat spiders, not sure about the Black Widow though.

nice post, like the bug out eyes, woah! :) thanks for sharing.

Yeah, big old eyes!

Thats a big ass frog! You are a beast pepper, love your vids and posts brother!

Wow the first pic was really awesome .

King of the North... Pond!

Hey. My wife says your froggy looks like one of those frogs you can kiss and then it turns into a prince..lol..nice post!

You let your wife kiss frogs?

Never knew that frogs eat all these stuffs man! I've cooked a lot of these during my career, but i've never really ate it actually, just tasted to make sure it was well seasoned before serving!

Wow Mr. Frogs, great video @papa-pepper , Good job!

Do frogs cause warts?

No, neither do toads.

@papa-pepper

It's a green frog, a rare species of frogs in the tropics, but there are in mainland North America, such as USA and Canada.

Is the frog species edible? Does the restaurant there sell it as a menu?

A "Green Frog" is a different species where I am from that does not grow nearly as large.

Is the frog species edible?

In both the text above and in the video I mention that people eat these, so Yes, they are edible and restaurants do sell it as a food.

At first glance, I thought the title read american bulldog and was confused with the post's thumbnail. I thought to myself "Since when did dogs come in green?"

LOL! Glad that it wasn't a typo!

I love these videos, and I need to make more time to watch them. We took the family out tonight to a favorite buffet we enjoy (along with some mini golf afterwards) and I ate a big old frog leg. As I admired it I thought, where do frogs get this big? Now I know. Thanks Pappa. :)

Very interesting timing. Thank you for the encouragement.

She ate the other one!? What the.. Looks can be deceiving..

I'm not sure what else could have happened!

Good post! I'm going to follow you to see more post like this and for support us!

Really beautiful .. thanks information .. hope we can cooperate .. follow me @kingsteem .. maybe be a friend

love the video. :) hello papa-pepper

Hi, nice post and so cute Frog :D

Hello Friend!
A huge toad, I would not have picked it up, I'm afraid :)
I watched the video, I thought that in the end you would kiss her :)
Maybe she turned into a beautiful girl :)
If all the tadpoles survived. Then the whole planet would be ruled by toads, 200 eggs one toad is so much: 0
Thank you for sharing;)

So cool is bullfrog amerika @papa-pepper

Upvoted and resteemed it.

what a froggy post.

That's a cute frog. I don't get the whole 'frogs legs' thing. Not my cup of tea really. I'd rather have them sitting in a pond, chirping and eating mosquitoes ;-)

We used to catch frogs when I was a kid, but you just don't see frogs here any more. I think all the streams and waterways are just too polluted these days.

"Jeremiah was a bullfrog, a very good friend of mine..." Remember the song? Seriously, though. Thoroughly educational. I love the sound of frogs down at the river at the end of winter. Their sounds always hold the promise that spring rain is on its way after a dry and dusty winter. Thank you again for this lovely series. I will be sure to go and thank @livingpoet as well.

Three dog night?

The way I heard it, they used to call drug dealers "bullfrogs." So if "Jeremiah was a bullfrog," maybe he had more than some " mighty fine wine."

That bullfrog looks almost friendly haha! Never held one in my hands but I didn't imagine it could stay so calm in humans hands... That was cool to watch and liked the info you gave there...

This is so cool! My boys will love the videos you share. They are obsessed with animal documentaries (they are 6 & 10) but can't get enough of learning random facts about animals. The newest one we have been researching is the humming hawk moth we found, and before that it was wolves and sharks LOL. I'm excited to share this one with them I know they'll love it, we are always finding frogs around our house but never like this! Thanks for sharing all the information can't wait to see more they come out.

I"ve not seen a huge frog or toad in a good number of years though most evening I do hear sounds but they could be crickets or racoons off in the distance :/ I once found a tree frog but the poor thing was dead after getting run over by a bike along the bike trail :( thanks for sharing ps should have told the big one to leave the smaller alone till you was done ;)

Hi dear @papa-pepper AMERICAN BULLFROG is
Amazing frog I really appreciate your work.
You are great and hard worker.love you

Your selfie with the frog is crazy 😂😂

Yeah, almost like Kermit.

Yeaah true 😂😂😂!! FMzXSOkV.jpg

Bullfrog could be a fantstic recipe for lunch. I hope its healthy...

Nice post !!!

We had a pond when I was growing up that had these monster big bull frogs. They scared me. Hey I grew up mostly in nyc. Do I get a break for being a sissy.

No break for you, but I do enjoy the memory you shared. ;-)

I got astonished every time I take the way into home from school because those frogs hop every step I made and I got scared cause it's really dark and I didn't know what it is unless I used my phone light to see those frogs hiding from the grass.

We love the sound of bullfrogs in our pond on summer nights. Some guys wanted to come in and gig them, but we wanted them to still live in our pond so they could serenade us.

That is a big frog , however they make laud noises when they are together...do you like their melody?

I like wild lives. I enjoy your video. Thanks.

Damn those things are huge, the frogs we have in England are a lot smaller at least the ones in my small pond are :)

Great post papa. I have a small pond in my back garden that has tad poles . I can hear the little frogs at night but can never find them.. I am hoping the little guys will eat the small snails and slugs in my garden and protect my veggies :) I even feed the tad poles lol .

That is very cool, love the close ups of the bullfrogs face. :D

I love that I learn something from every single one of your posts...whether its a new animal I've never seen before or a post about places I've never been...they are all wonderful, entertaining and educational. :D

Thanks for sharing. Have an awesome day! :D

Can't bring myself to try frog legs even though they smell amazing. Perhaps it was a school lab experience that turned me off. We had to dissect live frogs! How cruel and inhumane! Haven't touched a frog since and that is more than 40 years ago!

güzel makale takip et beni lütfen

I'm not sure where the bullfrog that was living in my pond went. I saw him off and on for about a year. Most of my frogs are small, he was the only bullfrog. In the spring I almost need ear protection if I go in the backyard at night.

Congratulations @papa-pepper!
