THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 4 - NORTHERN WATER SNAKE

in #wild-man8 years ago

This wild friend is one of my personal favorites!

Nerodia Sipedon, AKA the Northern Water Snake, is a very cool snake. For one, it is nice to have non-venomous water snakes. Also, it is just really neat to see them swimming under the water... well, for me it is anyway.

Sure, they will bite you if you grab them, but that just makes them easier to catch. After all, if you have a hold of them and they have a hold of you, it is so much harder for them to get away. Though not everyone would jump into a lake or stream after a snake, I certainly have on many occasions

When startled, they will quickly slide into the water and dive under it, in an effort to get away from you. Many times they will even swim underneath the water while hunting, only coming up for air.

The young look much like the adult snakes, and these snakes give live birth, so they do not lay eggs. Eventually, they can grow to over four feet in length, and vary in colors including red, gray, and brown. Some will lose most of their pattern as they grow, while other retain their striking look. I had a few variations of color and sizes for this video, so it was a lot of fun to make.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

Nice vid, great to be sharing something that you enjoy!

I sure do enjoy it, thanks for noticing!

They look cool... FROM BEHIND MY SCREEN. I would faint if I sae that many of them in real life...

Lol, from behind your screen!

Great post!! You are as comfortable with the snakes as I am on the golf course.
I'm stunned every time I watch you with those snakes. Steem on!!

Thanks for watching!

you like cheerios?

Not as much as I like ball pythons.

I went and found you a new friend today! I call him papa-pepe-the-frog:

He is about the size of a coke can and so loud I heard him croaking inside a couple hundred yards away.

Ooh, Bullfrog! Very nice!

Beautiful specimen! I own a a south western Australian carpet python....He is 5 years old atm....I will post a pic of him once I work out this steemit platform properly! <3

I always wanted to get bit by a carpet python... I knew a few in New Orleans.

Very wild man!!

That's how I live!

Incredible someone to live in nature with technology!!:)you awesome!!

I only have technology for steemit, otherwise I would just be in the woods doing it without sharing it.

It is crazy how easy it is for you to catch these snakes! Legend!

I still have to work at it, but I'm pretty good.

lol you the brave man @papa-pepper, i don't see myself touching a snake, i'm really scared of animals

They are not so bad. ..

I've never handled a snake before. I'd feel like Orochimaru when I do.

I grew up doing it, do it comes naturally now.

That's cool. You should have your own Animal Planet show haha.

You can give them my number.

I had no idea that any 🐍 gave birth to live offspring! I thought they all produced eggs! Very cool info!

Many kinds do, and I'm glad that you learned something!

I've touched a handled by carer snake before but never by myself, good thing I life in a country that has crocodiles & deadly snakes & spiders & anything that wants to kill you.

Good post, how big do they get around your place?

These? Only about four feet.

Very cool!! I really liked the coloration and pattern they have on their underside!

Yeah, it's a very colorful and cool pattern.

As always, awesome post. That is definitely a beautiful snake. And once again makin me home sick. lol. Great post!

Thank you for the encouragement!

Yes sir! Of course.

Haha! Class vid, man. Gonna take a look at the tarantula one now👍🏻

Enjoy them, more to come.

nice work as always @papa-pepper, I love the pic with it's mouth open!

Thanks. I should stop down there and see what you guys have!

You are a braver soul than I. Thanks for sharing!

Glad you took the time to check it out!

Love the write up though I couldn't bring myself to watch the video and I had to skim past the photos. The thought of how snakes feel puts me off them entirely.

Glad you could still appreciate the post!

I love these videos introducing people to all the wild creatures. Educating so we won't fear them. Hopefully your more squeamish viewers will have more respect and won't Kill them when encounter them . Thanks

It seems like many people who don't like the animals still enjoy the posts, so that is encouraging.

DAMN you're such a cool guy!

Lol! Glad you think so.

How did you learn to tame the snakes? It's bloody scary even when the snakes are 10 meters away and you're playing with them. Bloody amazing @papa-pepper.

You just have to know what you are dealing with.

Love it brother. My son and I had a blast with this vid! He loves anything and everything outdoors even when he's inside. We saw a big female the other day while fishin' the pond. She came off the bank behind us and circled out around us back to the bank. He thought that was great. He's five by the way. Preeeeesh for that moment with him.

Very cool, we almost caught a big one today. Got a Snapper though, show your son the new @little-peppers post.

Thanks for sharing the post.....just keep the snake. Lol

I will. .. oops, let them go already.

papa, even though its nonvenomous,am so afraid of snakes..kudos for being brave and distinguishing from the venomous ones, that might go a long way in preserving their species..you are indeed a wild man.

Great video. I was surprised when you pulled up the bag filled with more snakes. How do you catch them?

I know where to look, so we gather them up sometimes.

Seems like you are a snake lover??

I think I enjoy all creatures, or at least most of them.

I will upvote you , please you will support me .

Thank you for your information

Thank you for your information

Yet another wild animal that I wouldn't dare hold without gloves on. Thank you for letting us know the differences between this not being venomous and ones that look similar and are.
