THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 6 - MUSK TURTLE

in #wild-man8 years ago

I waited all my life to find one of these in the wild!

The Musk Turtle AKA “Stinkpot” (Sternotherus odoratus) is a pretty cool little turtle. When I say “little turtle” I mean it too. Though they can live for over 50 years, they never really grow more than six inches.

In my opinion, the Stinkpot almost looks like a little Snapping Turtle stuck in a Box Turtles shell. The names Musk Turtle and Stinkpot point toward the glands that these turtles have which can release a foul odor. We had them back in Wisconsin, but I was never able to locate one in the wild. Here in Arkansas, though, this is the second one that I have found.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

Nope, purple I think.

Thank you papa for your video. it is good for me to get to know the flora of where you are. Love your posts. Best regards

Happy turtle... enjoy your day!

😂

Animals are such agreeable friends they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms. Whoever saves an animal, saves the world entire. good job brother

Nice shots. I used to get those Florida softshell turtles stuck in my pool as a kid - the ones with the snouts and mean disposition.

Those are very cool.

I love these posts you do. Exploration is very much a part of me as a South-African and you are showcasing some species of animals and plants that I do not see here...

Hi there bro. So much of the wild life posts. You have a very nice place, lots of wildlife which can be found around. What is the name of your place by the way?

Arkansas, and I'll be working on your logo today.

Oh thank you. :)

Would that be fresh water crayfish @papa-pepper they eat ? Do you find fresh water crayfish in your streams? Very interesting Thanks for sharing .

Love it, we have a lot of turtles here in South Africa, only a shame as they cross the road and people drive over them.

That's pretty cool @papa-pepper!

Great one!!!

@papa-pepper, I did a post abou you. Please I'll like you to visit my blog to see it.
Thanks.

Brilliant post and very informative video (that I was able to watch thanks to the lack of snake)

pretty cute little guy.

Great work my dear

Great video and pictures Papa-pepper. I'm really happy for your success here it's really well deserved. I know I say this often but maybe there are some new people here who hadn't seen me say this. pappa-pepper is the one who inspired me to start blogging here. 😀🌞😁📝

I'm so glad I decided to get back on steemit after a week without checking in, because this is one of the main reasons I come on here, @papa-pepper and his wildlife knowledge. It's like having the discovery channel but with no commercials lol. The interesting here is that turtles are one the few wild animals I wouldn't mind holding in my hands and petting so seeing one up close and discovering a different kind is almost as if I'm there petting it, awesome work giving fun facts about this beautiful creature, please don't stop there because as I've said before I'm fascinated with these wild animals and learning about them without having to google them jeje, God bless.

Good videos and a great site. Going to start following you on a recommendation from "An American Homestead". Upvoted and resteemed.

Cool, a POWFMT-based token.

I've never seen one of those in the wild. Thanks again for doing this series....it's extremely informative.
