I watched it for nearly an hour this evening and it was really interesting to see how it flared in spots and grew. As it crested and went to the backside, there was a big glow. It was almost beautiful, until I think about the poor animals that had to run.
It is still 20 miles away so it is not an immediate threat to homes. With wind in the forecast tomorrow, we will see how things progress. At this point, it has burned 2,000 acres and it is only 5% contained. There is a ground crew working on it as well as helicopters and planes dropping retardant.
Tomorrow, I might drive to where I can get better photos.
That's really scary. We had some really bad wildfires where I live this past summer. For a few weeks if you went outside you'd see smoke in the air. Be careful if you drive near it. Fire's can spread quick if the wind blows hard.
How was the air quality out your way, could you smell the smoke?
So far so good. I haven't smelled it at all. The fire is to the southeast of me and it seems to be spreading to the north at this point. The winds are just now picking up again.
