Most people would not associate Germany as the homeland of a century-old wine tradition.
Wrong.
I would encourage readers to have a second thought and pay a few days visit to Wiesbaden, a beautiful and relaxed Spa town 1/2 an hour drive from Frankfurt for the traditional Rheingau Wein Fest.
You will avoid the "corporate" ambience, occasional rudeness and long lines of Munich's Oktoberfest.
You will instead find the courtesy and welcoming attitude of a provincial town where many volunteers, local food producers and winemakers will compete in kindness to sell you the many qualities of homemade pretzels, local bratwurst and white wines.
Here are some pictures I took at the Weinfeat last week end showing the city hall and the market's church.
