Spring is almost here and that means one thing: rosé season! Rosé is one of the biggest wines on the market these days and everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon, including rock star Jon Bon Jovi.
The lead singer of the award-winning American rock band Bon Jovi and the man who sang "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Bed of Roses" (sadly not about a bed of rosé wine) is joining a a line of celebrities and making his own wine.
It all started when Bon Jovi and his son, Jesse Bongiovi (that's how they spell their real last name, Bon Jovi is just a stage name) were sipping on rosé during some vacation time in the Hamptons. They thought it would be cool to make their own wine and decided to call it "Hampton Water," due to the easy drinking nature of the fruity pink wine.
They decided it should be a French rosé, comparing the relaxed lifestyle of the Hamptons to that of the South of France.
The two met Gerard Bertrand, one of the most famous winemakers in the world, and therefore found the man to make their wine.
"When we visited Gerard, we realized that there is an entire coastline in France that is producing some of the best-kept secrets on Earth," says Bongiovi.
The wine, called Diving Into Hampton Waters Rosé, will be released any day now. It will retail for $25. Grapes comprised to make the pink blend include grenache, cinsault and mourvedre - three icons of the Rhône wine region.
They actually made the wine together - the three men - tasting countless blends until settling on the right palate pleaser.
I'm so going to try it- as a kid who grew up in the 1980s and knew plenty of Bon Jovi songs (my mom loved them and I always thought Jon Bon Jovi was a babe, and still is!) and now a wine writer, I'm going to pick up a bottle of this to taste in my own backyard - the Hamptons of the West Coast - Sonoma!
Ha! Bon Jovi. Nicely written story. I'm not a rose drinker, but that's a nice write up.
Thanks for reading and the kind words @captainbob!
