The Lower Dan Tien

In this picture, you can see outlined some key acupuncture points (Ming Men, Qi Hai and Guan Yuan). We'll touch on these points later in this blog series, but for now, look at the yellow/orange swirl. This is the location of the Lower Dan Tien.

Note that it is not at the front of you body, neither is it at the back of your body. Importantly, it is located in the 'centre' of your body.

Finding the Lower Dan Tien

The best way to find the Lower Dan Tien, is to discover the centre of your gravity.

  1. Stand in Yee Jee Kim Yang Ma or sit comfortably
  2. Elongate the spine so the back is naturally straight
  3. Adjust your body so that you are centred (don't lean forwards or backwards or left or right - be centred)
  4. Place both hands over the pelvis below the belly button (palms facing Qi Hai)
  5. As you inhale, expand the belly away from the spine
  6. As you exhale, contract the belly toward the spine
  7. Try and place the mind within the centre of your body between your hands and spine
  8. Breathe into this place
  9. Use both the centre of gravity and the breath to keep the mind at this place discovering your personal centre

This is a wonderful meditation in and of itself. Start by practicing for 5 minutes. Integrate the 5 principles. See if you can build up to 30 minutes.
