Hello Steemians. I happily welcome everyone of you to the second episode of Show Us Your Witnesses Contest#2. The first episode had come and gone and before we proceed with the details of this second episode, it is important to update the community with the outcome of the first episode.
The reason for this contest
The chief reason for this contest remains to enhance the community awareness of who witnesses are, their duties while also helping to step up witness voting engagement of the community.
Goals of this contest
Among the main goals of this contest are:
To deliver 50000 new witness votes within the duration it would run and based on the resources available to us.
To significantly improve witness voting engagement rate of the community, which is currently put at 25.97% of all active accounts, according to a report by @lukestokes.
The result of the first episode
In the just concluded episode, we had 9 entries. Unfortunately, however, we have only 3 winners as a lot of the contestants violated the rules. While some where disqualified for voting inactive witnesses, others did not have votes supporting their entries. The names of the contestants and how they faired are as follows:
@adoore-eu — 46 votes
@ijele – 4 votes; voted inactive witness, @roadscape, as of the time the contest was announced.
@princefizzy — 25 votes
@marpemusic — no vote
@kidops — 1 vote
@yura81 — no vote
@realseb — no vote
@donaldpete — no vote; voted inactive witness @roadscape.
@hendeca8 — no vote; uploaded screenshot not showing the whole witnesses voted for.
By rules of this contest, all the contestants that don't have at least one community vote supporting their entries, all the contestants whose screenshot uploads only showed partial witnesses they voted for, and those who voted inactive witnesses, are hereby disqualified.
Based on this, our winners are as follows!:
@kidops emerged the second runner up with 1 vote & wins 4steem!
@princefizzy emerged the first runner up with 25 votes & wins 6steem!!
@adoore-eu emerged winner with incredible 46 valid votes & wins 8steem!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!
The Second Episode
This episode is the same as the first episode in terms of rules and mode of entry. However, the winnable prize has been scaled down to 10 SBD largely because we are yet to get the needed sponsors. Currently, what's used to sustain this scheme is earnings from @eurogee's account.
As before, we won't tell you witnesses to vote for as canvassing support for particular witnesses are not the aim of this contest. We will be as neutral as possible. But we will show you how to vote and those you must not vote for because they are currently inactive.
How to vote for witnesses
Before you go voting, click this: https://steemian.info/witnesses. Take note of all the witnesses. Those in red colour have been struckthrough. This shows that they are inactive for now. So they should not be among witnesses you will choose. This is only valid for now.
Click this link in the page that opens, you will see a list of top 50 witnesses. If your choice witnesses are among the 50, click on the corresponding upvote icon to vote. If they are not among the top 50, scroll down and you will see a box similar to the below image. Type in the name of your choice witness and vote.
The rule of the contest & how to submit your entry
You must RESTEEM this contest to reach wider audience.
You must vote for at least 20 witnesses (you can vote for the maximum 30 allowed witnesses if you have reasons to)
Visit https://steemd.com/@urusername(substitute @urusername with your Steemit username). Scroll down and you will see the all the list of all the witnesses you voted for. Screenshot/snapshot it.
In not more than 60 words, state the roles witnesses play in sustaining steem blockchain as a reply comment to this contest article; and upload the screenshot/snapshot of your chosen witnesses under your comment.
Invite your friends to come and upvote your comment.
All your chosen witnesses must be active at the time of choosing them. To find out those that are active, refer to the Part I under How to vote for witnesses above.
Voting proxies attract outright disqualification.
This contest will come to an end at exactly 3:00 pm +1 GMT , Saturday, February 10th, 2018.
NB: The factors that determines who wins remain the contestant's understanding of roles of witnesses to steem blockchain and the number of upvotes generated by contestant's entry.
Prizes
First Position: 5 Steem
Second Position: 3 steem
Third Position: 2 steem

Don't give up. Success is within reach only if you persevere
Starting out in any endeavor in life is always not easy. And so expecting otherwise is therefore an indirect expression of unreadiness in pursuit of any worthwhile goals. This has been the core definition of my person. So in any endeavor I find myself, I usually stayed back even when everyone has left to see if there would ever be a chance for success. Only when all indicators turn red that I would throw in the towel. I am grateful to God that I didn't give up in the face of initial challenges.
Are you finding it difficult to succeed here?
Maybe you are old or new here but you have been finding it difficult to make any headway. Is success what you crave for? Witnesses are equivalent to life and blood of steem blockchain. Without them, the blockchain will seize to function and we will all be stranded here. Click here to read more on why it is important to vote for witnesses
In the Steem blockchain, witnesses play the role of timestamping transactions and validating signatures by including them in blocks.
What is a Block?
A block is any group of transactions which updates the state of the database. Whenever a witness produces a block, they get paid. If a witness doesn't produce a block, then they won't be paid and maybe voted-out
Your entry has been noted. Thanks for participating
Steem witnesses play a crucial part in how the STEEM network functions. The blockchain require set of people to create blocks and uses a consensus mechanism called delegated proof of stake, or DPOS.
They create blocks (thus process transactions)
The most important role is to produce a price feed, which is how STEEM Dollars are always worth $1 in STEEM.

It's a great opportunity.
The intents behind the contest is a very nice one, most of the witnesses i voted, have been on my mind ever since but i kept procrastinating but with the contest in play, everything was done under some minutes.
Sometimes people just need a catalyst to do something that needs to be done. That's why i like supporting creative contests, they tend to engage people and most times bring out the best in them.
Nice work @eurogee
It gladdens my heart to know someone...a contestant for that matter understands the hidden purpose of this contest. Success boss
This are just days of my humble beginning, thanks to @mahdiyari for opening my eye to the whole witness stuff..
@Witnesses play enormous pivotal roles for sustenance of steem ecosystem.
They are the community's network block producers and the governance body of steem ecosystem.
They are the attestation of steemit blockchain.
They process every transaction on the system.
Steemit is free but witnesses determines its future because its an obligation to every Steemian to vote for witnesses.

witnesses has a different level of involvement on the Steem platform. They range from developers, programmers, techies, engineers, to regular people, from all over the world. Each contributes to the community in their own ways. Witnesses usually post in the witness-category. They introduce themselves by describing their projects and how they envision their contribution to Steem.

wat a nice one here
Amazing work your doing here sir; am participating in this one.
You're most welcome
The emergence of steemangelists really helps to promote the witness voting to ascertain their viability and effective functions. But sir, if a steemian mistakenly vote for inactive witness,does it have negative effect of steemit community? Weldone boss
Yes. It means that they person will miss to validate blocks when he is required to do so. Thanks
Congratulations to all the participants. From the contest, i am sure they are now enlightened about who a witness is. This contest will go a long way in telling people about witnesses. It is another way of appreciating them for what they are doing in the system.
Hopefully this will continue. I hope it does.
Thanks.
