What I've Been Up To
Updated my seed node with @someguy123's low memory configured docker image. The replay time was just under 1 hour:
Done reindexing, elapsed time: 3307.20483299999978044 sec
3307/60 = 55.116666667 minutes
Sadly, I missed by first block due to my own error. During the recent concerns over bandwidth issues, I rushed to join my fellow witnesses in updating the blocksize to 131,072 from 65,536. In doing so, I accidentally used the wrong public key from an older witness server and as a result missed a block.
Public Service Announcement: double, triple check your update_witness command to ensure the public key matches your config.ini private key.
Disabled my witness node, upgraded to v0.19.1 RC1, and replayed the blockchain, also on low memory mode.
"blockchain_version": "0.19.1", "client_version": "v0.19.1rc1",
Thankfully, my witness monitoring script is still working like a charm and sent me a text message both when updating my seed node and my witness node. If you're running a witness and want to be alerted before you miss a block, give it a look.
We moved up a spot to 32! I think that's mainly due to datasecuritynode losing some votes as their node has been disabled for some time. Moving up the ranks at this point will not be easy, so every vote counts!
I could go into more detail as to why v0.19.1rc1 is so important and what the bandwidth issues are all about, but other witnesses did a great job of that already so I'll just link to their fine work.

It's been a long day at work that extended through dinner and past my kids' bedtime, but I was able to relax a little after that with some spirits and a couple of episodes of Game of Thrones. I then recovered enough to get to witness duties, update my node, and serve you fine steemians.
Thanks again for your support!
I'm currently holding position 32!

Got around to voting for your witness today... you were spot 31 before my vote and I checked again after a few minutes and you are now up to spot 30.
Not saying it is all because of me... but really, could it really be a coincident?
Darryl
Haha! Thank you! I actually just noticed that. I'm watching this page throughout the day: https://steemd.com/witnesses and this one as well: https://steemd.com/@lukestokes.mhth
It's kind of an addiction, actually. :)
Based on what I've seen is people powering down. When that hits, a big chunk of their vote weight decreases, which moves the rankings around a bit.
Dear Steem advanced,
I really appreciate your reply on my post to tell me the real value of steem. I want to invest very much on steem, but with this business plan I am sure it fails in future.

Thanks a lot.
@lukestokes Wow - you have been up quite late. It is unusual to see a blog at this time from you. I did not realise that witness duties needed all that effort. I mean - I knew that it is a position of great responsibility but was not aware of witnesses having to handle so many technical details as well. I guess my nerdy hours spent as a Unix system admin during my college days may come in handy some day!! Lol. Not that I am going to be anywhere near as respected as you on Steemit community in near future to be considered anywhere close to a witness. Being a witness is ligh years away for me. Anyway - Thanks for the thorough update on witness activity. Upvoted.
Update at my end is that I am continuing my Photospeak series on my Africa memories. Letting the picture speak instead of writing a lot of words. I would be honoured if you take a look at the latest one and provide your comments.. Thanks.
Oh well your first battle scar lol At least your honest enough to post about it and all the problems were solved! Your doing great!
Thanks for being active and keeping us updated!
You Got My Vote Bro, Please Be Kind Enough To Upvote My Comment :)
Thank you for your vote, I sincerely appreciate it. As to upvoting your comment, do you think it brought real value to the platform? Does it "deserve" an upvote or is this more of a "I did something for you (voted for your witness) because I expect something in return, not because I think you earned it by your actions as a witness"?
I wrote this post 11 months ago about reputation with the basic idea being, "What would happen if everyone did this?" If everyone purchased votes, would the platform have better content and better witnesses?
I do vote for comments often, but almost never when they ask for it in return for something. I try to vote based on my own personal subjective measure of value because I think that's what benefits the network the most, especially when we all do the same.
Well Said Bro :)
Voted you as a witness. Keep on with the community work. The community needs people like you.
Thank you!
I have hearing about nodes, masternode etc.... please can you give a little tips about it?
Masternode is a concept in pure proof of stake systems like Dash, Stratis, etc. A node is part of the distributed blockchain architecture. If receives blocks and transactions from the network and passes them along to other connected nodes and it can send along it's own transactions as well.
Thanks for the response. Am getting it now.
I have a feeling you wont do that again, learning the hard way is sometimes the best lesson of all.
Thanks for the update! So you now have a battle scar... which-- I guess-- goes to show that you ARE more human than human...
:)
Thanks for your post! Really dig your stuff. Following you. Check out my stuff, maybe something will interest you!
Congrats on #32.
What's your drink of choice?
All kinds. :)
Last night I made myself a margarita and later sipped a double shot of Maker's Mark.
Nice, I'm a bourbon man myself. Also don't mind a margarita with my wife from time to time. Those nights usually end well :)
You will make it good next time. 👍 I know that. And congratulations, you are now at 32. 😊
Awww that's too bad :( It was a great record while it lasted though! How long did the perfect record stand?
We moved up a spot to 32! I think that's mainly due to datasecuritynode losing some votes as their node has been disabled for some time.
