I agree. i think steemit needs to be more far more user friendly. ive been involved with p.c.'s and the internet for 20 yrs but had to look for answers when i first joined. because of my experience i knew how to find those answers. A lot of people are not so techy savy and are not particularly wanting to be. they just want to click and go.
I've been on steemit for about 5 weeks now and in that time ive told loads of my friends to get on it. most of them are txting me or fb'ng me to ask simple things like how to post a pic or post in a category. O.K i realise most people have come from the crypto background so are already techy literate, but the fact that it is a social media site means if steemit is to be successfull it will have a majority of non techy people.
There really should be a 'sticky' help section. easily seen and accessible.
i know there are plenty of help posts (ive even wrote a few) but they don't get voted up and they quicky get lost in the ether so you have to trawl through too many to find the answers.
And here i think lies the problem. people are posting for value and not to give help. people are trying to write the next post that appeases the whales. The whales don't want to vote up the help posts because they dont want new potential users seeing that the site has issues.
(Was this project launched too early?)
I think there is also a problem with how some whales vote. I can understand that for this site to be successful there has to be a period of major advertising (i did a degree in advertising photography) and i realise that means the devs and the whales want new visitors to hit the site and see steemit sucess stories or advertising, but it seems thats all it is. sucess stories, advertising, what people are doing for steemit, posts by other whales and success stories mainly about steemit and crypto.
There are so many good honest original worthwhile posts on steemit that show so much talent, yet they are getting very little return on the grand scale of things. write something about steemit, crypto, how good steemit is, advertising steemit or crypto big wigs and clebrities and you might get a fortune.
The thing is, the majority of new users are seeing/experiencing these issues very quickly. they are seeing that you potentialy can get rich at first but then quickly get dis-illusioned as mostly their posts get nothing or a few cents, added to the fact that its taken them so much time to make a post because of the lack of user ease.
I think we are at a crucial point atm. Ive been into crypto for 3 years now, starting with the litecoin rush. ive seen so many cryptos come and go, unfortunately this looks like it might fail too if things dont change.
Personally i think the figures speak for themselves. 80,000 registered users but only 4,500 active users today (this figure has been going down) Active last 7 days : 12,768. thats a lot of lost customers.
The price of steem is still falling (incidently its been doing that since i joined when there was about 2,000 users)
Obviously the advertising has been working and drawn people in but when they've got here they've not done anything (i have friends that joined and still haven't made a post)
Doesn't that sound a bit strange? you come to the land of milk and honey where there's free crypto and a way to make more, and you just dont bother? i don't think so. theres obviously a problem.
Like i say, people nowadays like to click and go. they want it simple. they also dont want to see people getting rich off very little skill while they are getting little from their good honest creative talent. they also dont want to continually see the rich getting richer while they get nothing.
I realise thats how capitalism works but at least in capitalism most people make a living. in the steemit system some people get mega rich, some get a living but the majority get nothing.
Once you lose a customer they don't come back usually.
So to the question of where should steemit go next. well in my mind it needs to stop bullying itself self up and kissing its own arse and start being a social media site that rewards its good posters. it needs ease of use. it also could do with some kind of messaging or pm service (what other social media site doesn't allow you to contact each other?)
it needs to decide what its going to be and stick to it. People dont like the game changing all the time. (i cant even believe we've had 13 hard forks) Then theres the elite mining system. people like familiarity and useability. plus investors need to see a stable future because of the fragility of previous crypto's.
If steemit doesnt change and whales are just in it for the money then they will be on their own on steemit and the price will continue to fall until they are no richer than the average jo. after all it takes 104 weeks to liquify all assets. by then the price could be 1cent if things carry on the way they are.
If steemit is to succeed then everyone needs to benefit or nobody benefits in the long run.
I do believe steemit still has the potential for so much, it has definitely motivated and inspired me to do more of my artwork. but at the same time im starting to fear it will go like the rest of the crypto's ive been involved in.
However i am in it for the duration and am still posting and curating everyday. I even started the website steembubble.com because i had so much faith.
Если так и будет продолжаться, что киты голосуют за "своих", а хорошие посты остаются без внимания, то люди просто будут покидать проект и он не будет иметь будущего.
If that continues, that whales vote for "their" and good posts go unheeded, people will simply leave the project and steemit will not have a future.
I really like how you put everything out there that looks like what half of what needs to be said and what you wanted to say. steemit is going down hill the trending page is nothing but same names yes of course they have great content. One or two posts with good curators and bam hundreds of followers and the other content creators left in the dust because every one is following every one for that Steem power. Then we start seeing spam posts about how steemit is not worth i t blah blah.. its not that its not worth it its about $$$ and if no whale sees your posts well no one sees your post well besides bots. But I agree with your comment something needs to be done to benefit all creators.
You telling me man. There is no help guide or anything relative to that within the site. There is only what other users have posted. I must say though i am impressed the search function works very well and I have found bery helpful information here.
