Woot Woot!
I have worked tirelessly on my STEEM Witness server for a solid week as of today. I tried many setup examples offered in the steemit.com interface. The best one by far has been provided by @yehey. Posted outside of steemit.com so that it can be updated as required to keep it current.
Getting the the witness node itself built was not the biggest issue for me, the price feed turned into my monster. I worked on https://steemit.chat/channel/witness with @bobinson and @yehey for a few days until I finally figured out that the problem was a bad character. Not a typo but literally an incorrect Character as seen here.
Yes it is the little things that will get you. I'll be honest I am not sure how I got this unless from cut and paste.
So starting from a scratch blank config.json file and typing everything instead of using copy paste yielded the correct results. A correctly published price feed.
as seen on @drakos cool tool here https://steemian.info/witnesses.
Now I saw in the last Reports from the Witnesses 2017-01-01 published by @timcliff that some witnesses were publishing a discount rate in their price feeds due to the volatility in the $SBD prices currently going on.
It would be nice if witnesses knew if this was something we should all be doing and if so what the line of code is to add to our config.json file to implement the discount rate. It would also be good if we had a place we could look on a regular basis to see if the discount rate needs to be adjusted or removed.
Perhaps I can work on providing this service myself. Even implement an SMS service to let witnesses know when changes have been made, price feeds broken, fork updates etc. This couild perhaps help keep the witness node members more up to date with changes. I own a ColdFusion website hosting company so I have access to servers, rack space and bandwidth to implement projects at relatively no extra cost to me.
But for now, I am just waiting for more votes for witness and for my 1st block so that annoying red strike-through text can be removed from my name in the witness list.
If someone could provide the code needed to add the discount feed I would appreciate it in a comment below.
Just my two STEEMS Worth.
Please vote for @libertyranger for witness

" and ' and other things can make you go batty Good to hear you got the witness working though.
Thank you. Now I can turn my eyes on setting up my Seed server and perhaps another witness server. It's not like I don't have plenty of server equipment laying around.
And please do vote for me s witness.
I can use all the votes I can get and it only takes a brief moment to do so.

Sure why not I have slots that I leave sleeping anyways Cheers
It is very much appreciated.
Thank You.
voted for you , i hope haejin votes for you too !
I had looked at your screen shot many times... I couldn't identify that silly bugger :)
It kills me. I have been a Cold Fusion programmer for over 20 years. I actually helpd Jeremy and JJ Allaire develop the beta releases. I have written algorithms for the Navy Dive tables that were very intricate with stuff like this and some other really complex stuff in CF. But it is always the short cuts that get you. Instead of hammering out the code I was cut and paste and it got me.
I know that I have had this problem before on other projects and my last ditch was to always delete everything and start from scratch with each line of code originating from my fingertips.
What made me examine this though was when you told me to drop the last commafter the 60.
Had you not done that chances are I would not have back scanned the rest of the code for anomalies.
Not to mention I have a "dyslexic keyboard" LOL.
Thanks for taking a peak at my post about my scrape getting this done. I hope it helps others down the road. If you get a moment I sure could use a vote on the witness list. I can assure you if I have not yet earned it I will and I intend to make the STEEM community proud to have me on board.
Believe that's the node JS price feed update script by someguy123. Works well and easier than dealing with Python and Python module versioning headaches.
