SteemCommunity update – New changes from steemit/steem repo up for review

image.png

Hey everyone,

here just a quick update on the SteemCommunity repository.

Steemit Inc. has merged multiple pull requests into their master branch which prompted me to start a pull request to review them.

So far my verdict is that the changes are not harmful and actually improve replay time. There are a few changes that modify how RC is calculated, as discussed in this issue these changes further reduce RC requirements by a small amount. They also make the resource pools more elastic, which means they adapt faster to change in global usage.

To see how this change plays out in a live environment, I am currently replaying https://testbed.reggaemuffin.me/ with the new changes, so that in a few hours tests can be run to compare the RC change on the live chain. This RPC node has the following plugins enabled: witness rc_api condenser_api network_broadcast_api database_api so some applications will be able to try it out.

Also @holger80 made a review of these changes himself. I am hoping that he will run a beempy test on my testbed node :)

Please everyone who is capable of reviewing these changes, do take a look!

As always, some stats on this new change:

A little improvement on the RC's for small accounts definitely seems reasonable - Great to see this beeing worked on!

Da wird gearbeitet. Wunderbar :)

hey, @reggaemuffin.

I just wanted to add my appreciation to others here for the testing and communicating you're doing here. It is greatly appreciated.

I just read a more recent holger80 post on this subject and it sounds like there will be slight to substantial increases in some activities, like following, with only upvotes decreasing.

Has your view of the update changed at all in the last few days since you posted here. Have you been able to test all of what you were wanting to do, and are you okay with the changes in RC cost for these activities?

I wonder because I keep hearing how the new/low SP accounts aren't able to do a whole lot, and so increasing any activity at this point, even slight changes, aren't going to help them, are they? I ask, since I don't know if there's something else in the works, other than RC delegations, to alleviate this issue long term.

The changes should be beneficial to those with low RC, f. E. New users playing steemmonsters.

There are rc pools in the works which should help apps on board many users.

Right now I am in favor of adopting this patch.

Okay. Good to know. I understand this patch is supposed to happen next week, as long as there is consensus reached, of course. Do you happen to know what day and time it goes in effect?
