Another intense week - massive user growth and thousands of users experiencing their first tastes of power thanks to the hardfork.
I've been curating a lot , supporting users across a few different community building efforts , refining automated voting systems for @centerlink and @ausbitbot and finally got some more focussed time developing the steemviz beta.
I now have 612 witness votes and I'm at rank # 29
Witness node operations
Last week I updated my main witness node to the latest version of Steem and we successfully upgraded the steem network to Hardfork v.0.19.0 'Equality' .
After having a pretty good run so far with my witness node so far and only 10 blocks missed over my entire campaign - I failed bad this week.
My steemd node crashed, and my kill-switch script wasn't running so my key never got disabled.. And I hadn't switched my notification system over to my new phone yet, so this went unnoticed for way too long.
I've now setup a redundant copy of the kill-switch script so if this happens again my node will be disabled reliably, and my notification system has been updated.
Even though I've almost doubled in total witness votes since my last update, the missed blocks and slow response time cost me @abit 's vote and I dropped from rank # 27 to # 29 immediately :(
- 28 missed blocks this week (38 ever) .
- I'm now witnessing an average of 49 blocks each day .
Price feed and current network parameters
- I publish an unbiased price feed - last update was $1.871 SBD / STEEM
- SBD interest rate remains steady at 0% - to discourage hoarding whilst SBD is overvalued
- Account creation fee remains at 0.2 STEEM - attempting to reduce signup cost (info)
- Maximum block size remains at 131,072 - to lower the SP requirements to transact (more info).
Steem Dollars still trading above $1
Steem Dollars continue to be in high demand, currently priced at $2.16 USD per SBD .
I'd still really like us to attempt timcliff's proposed solution to restore the $1 SBD peg (TLDR: Reverse Conversion) .
Steemians should be taking advantage of these higher prices and sell SBD above face value while you can.
Do not use the internal convert option in your wallet for SBD's at this time - you will get a better deal on exchanges.
You should also avoid doing 100% Steem Power posts at this time, you will make more money if you use the 50/50 option and then trade the SBD you get for Steem.
Hardfork 19 complete - Hardfork 20 soon (TM)
I'm still trying to take in the full picture of what linear rewards has done to the Steem economy - but the initial minnow euphoria seems to be quickly being replaced with frustration at continued rampant abuse by large stakeholders.
I have a few ideas on using social pressure on the worst self-voters through a new account called @shame - I'll share more on that in a future post.
Almost as soon as HF19 'equality' went live, @steemitblog was already proposing HF20 'velocity' .
The main bullet points of the HF20 proposal are :
- Improving the registration process through a variety of methods so we can scale up to millions of users
- Implementing discounted account creation through both Steem burning and scrypt mining
- Adding a dynamically adjusted daily quota for discounted account creation
- Giving accounts a permanent minimum bandwidth instead of requiring SP
- Removing the ability to create accounts via SP delegation
- Removing the vote dust threshold
Just like the last hardfork, this is too many changes at once IMHO .
TeamAustralia is sponsored by @centerlink
Team Australia and @centerlink have been growing quick, with @centerlink now supporting 171 Steemians and voting on around 200 posts a day.
A big thankyou goes to these recent donators to the cause :
@ancientmystique , @scooter77 , @gohba.handcrafts , @cryptohustlin , @the-fillosopher , @bulleth , @dirtfoot , @shellyduncan , @choogirl , @brendio , @richq11 , @ryivhnn , @timsaid
@centerlink now has a few operators regularly posting content in order raise funding and SP , and it's also seeing the beginnings of some nice curation rewards :
It's now 2 weeks old, and has 700 SP of its own, as well as the original 2000 SP I delegated to it , and its full strength vote gives about $1.50 . It also has about $600 in pending post rewards to be powered up within a few days.
Hopefully it'll keep snowballing and be able to provide a decent minimum income for quality posts from #teamaustralia members in no time :)
LivingRoomOfSatoshi adds Steem support !
It's been about a month since we asked @roomofsatoshi to add steem support , and after a great response from the community I'm happy to announce that Steem to AUD bank or BPAY payments are now available!
Myself, and a few fellow Aussies have tested the service out now with no problems to report - just a quick and easy way to turn Steem into Aussie Dollars in your bank account.

Please vote for me as a witness here
well keep going... you are getting there!
I voted for you because you put in work for all of us. I hope you rank up even more.
Upvoted/Resteemed
Thank you for your time and energy.
$incerely,
@justinashby
Fellow Users and STEEMians, please vote for @ausbitbank in the witness section.
How I wish and wanted to understand everything but my brained says nevermind u can't weeew those programs and terms can't handle it, brain drain and I'm loading hahaha, maybe I'll do keep on posting and keep in hoping to be noticed by the superiors and be merited hahaha
tnx for the hard work you have done sir @ausbitbank and to your steemians mate who've done this for the good of the community. Goo steem!
i guess i might never try to be a witness, all this wizardry phrases frying my brain🤔
Thanks for the mention. Anything I can do to keep supporting the cause. Thanks for supporting us and the things you do for this community everyday.
@AusbitBank... Many people have no idea how much work some of the Witnesses do 4 the Steemit Community and quite honestly I'm still learning how much time & effort that You & everyone that You are working with & supporting. I was fortunate to receive guidance from @Aggroed and that's why I voted You & @TeamSteem as Witness a number of weeks ago.
Thank You also 4 the guidance & the suggestions You made in this post.
As many others have already acknowledged... BIG Kudos 2 You !!
Thanks Again @AusbitBank... Have a Great Week !!
Aus, I haven't voted yet because I want to be sure I know the basis: there are a bunch of skallywags on the list that I want to be able to not vote for and check who I do want , but I'm now sure how to do this--do I go thru the list and check who I want and don't want, how many votes do I get are there any of the "good" witnesses not listed that I should write in?
I went and inspected some of the witnesses and found some of the worst "skallywags" with zero posts (or a handful) and zero followers. If you could include again the witness voting page link. Also some appear to be working on other Steem projects so despite no posts and few followers --they may not neccessarily be bad witnesses. thanks again for your hard work...
https://steemit.com/~witnesses
You get 30 votes and it's tricky because not everyone's efforts are visible via their steemit profile..
These are my current votes :
I theres anyone not wanting to keep track of witness dramas , that trusts my judgement - you can set me as a witness voting proxy at the bottom of the page and it will copy my witness preferences to your account automatically.
Perfect this is exactly what I needed. I'd gone thru the list and circled some peeps including number 21 busy.witness that has 0posts and 100% power-which said to me he wasn't participating--but as you say he may being doing other projects, thanks (since my 6 cents would help you much in the scheme of life I opted to reSteem this)!
I believe the busy.witness account isn't really an active witness , its for funding busy.org development costs (an alternative interface to the steem blockchain). Thanks for the resteem :)
Awesome. Steemviz is working pretty good though would be cool to have a UI refinement. Maybe a ready to use CSS framework may help? I like HackCSS for projects like yours. Much better than overused Bootstrap.
Looking forward to see what comes out of @shame.
I was wondering what rate the internal SBD to steem conversion takes and had used it for my first couple of conversions... will avoid that from now on!
Glad to see it's working out minus a slight hiccup. I definitely agree it's too soon to talk about a HF20 and there're way too many changes!
My Vote is Yours!
Thanks for the small overview of HF20 changes.
Have you considered the idea of limiting self-votes to a few times per day?
The extreme idea is: No more than (IDK) 2-3 self-votes per day no matter what.
The less extreme: The vote power scales down with each new vote for yourself in a 24 hour period - first one can be 100%, next one restricted to 90%, next one to 80%, and so on down to 10% and then 0. Jerry Banfield had a great post on this.
Doesn't prevent collusion between multiple accounts though... and I guess now that I am typing this, I am realizing that it would be trivial to create a new account and upvote that one instead of your own. Hmm...
Thank you for this info. You are doing an awesome job as usual. Small setbacks are normal on anyone's path to mastery. Cheers!
Thanks for the update... I still struggle understanding half of it but every post I learn a bit more and minnowsupportproject has helped a lot! My next goal is to understand the SP delegation stuff... I've invested in my SP so now I just need to work out what I'm supposed to do with it that's beneficial for all :) Thanks for all the hard work you do @ausbitbank Can we vote for you more than once for Witness? I've got like 25 free votes still :)
[excitement flail] I'll be on there...later today or sometime tomorrow, today is full on XD But I now have a prayer of getting fence sitting friends on here!
Oops, crap about the node falling over, glad you got everything sorted out. Thanks for the insane amount of work you put in :)
To be honest I voted for you @ausbitbank and @theprophet0 , wish you the best !!
Well aren't you a handsome boy.
Great post. You should really use that @shame :D
Keep doing you my man, always have my support for witness
Thanks for sharing @ausbitbank you keep me well informed about this network. You have my witness vote that's for sure. Keep up the great work mate!
I voted for you on @acidyo suggestion :)
Oh man! I'm sorry to hear about the node failure. I'm sure you will gain momentum back and hopefully @abit will give you a second chance. That must have been a hard pill to swallow.
resteemed, upvoted, and got a witness vote from me ;D To be honest, I thought I already voted you as a witness... Wishing you the best in sucess @ausbitbank
@ausbitbank: I've already voted for you as witness and I'd like to thank you for the amazing efforts. Any idea how soon HF 20 will be implemented.
Thanks! I would throw out a guess of ~2 weeks but nothing has been announced yet
Thank you so much for the news well i have spoken to few my fellow steemians and they are not so happy with the HF 19 as the voting system gone incredibly biased, Hopefully they do something for that so new use gets some courage to post and be active.
A lot of great information regarding HF20 and the witness operations. It'll be interesting to see how people react to all of those changes. Keep up the great articles. Can't wait to see your rank get even higher!
The proposals for Hardfork 20 are really useful and it will definitely help solve some implications regarding voting power.
I've already voted for you as witness and I'd like to thank you again for the amazing hardwork you put in for this platform
Keep up the good work mate. btw. Do you have any idea why Polo has disabled the Steem wallets?
I suspect they didnt upgrade their steem node, but I have a 200 SBD deposit from before the hardfork that never showed up either. Their ticket response template just vaguely blames steem and says everything will be back to normal soon but I don't trust them at all.
Dude you are so voted for!
How could I not after your heroism during the Minnowton war in defeating Bigbadassicus.
And your plan to surf from Wannapuffabong to Lisbon for Steemfest gives you legendary status.
Only I know what you'll do next and believe me it'll be heroic.
You are total Witness material my friend.
Good luck.
@tremendospercy
Great effort, we need more people on here like yourself, you are an asset to steemit. Thank you.
Pretty cool
Thank You for sharing this amazing post with us
Keep up the good work , was learning a lot by reading this
@ausbitbank great post, super content amazing! I am just getting to know you. upvoted but you' got a few cents. If I had full upvote power I'll upvote this at least $20.00. If you've got @aggroed 's support you've got mine as well.
Thanks for sharing. provide me a link to vote for you .
Thanks for your support , you can vote for witnesses at https://steemit.com/~witnesses
Voted up and Resteemed. How does one go about becoming a curator anyway? Still learning. Thanks for the post ausbitbank. teamaustralia ROCKS. Later.
Curation is just finding, rewarding and sharing quality content - you're already doing it :)
Ah. Thanks.
Thank you for all the information updates ,and advice :)
Very interesting blog.Thank you for this @ausbitbank resteemed
Thank you for this great summary and sharing your thoughts on HF20. Just helps give people an idea of possibilities.
Thanks for helping me learn more about steemit.
I like the future changes in HF20, thank you for telling us this information.
so instead of a cheetah bot...there gonna be possibly a shame bot in HF20. upvote is fine maybe on their blog....but on their own comments???
Does that mean one can get discounts to get their friends, families, and cryptopreneurs signed up?
Much apreciated such a fruitful info for everyone . n going to vote for u surely
How do I vote for you?
You can vote for witnesses on this page, just upvote 'ausbitbank' at rank 29 https://steemit.com/~witnesses
Thanks @ausbitbank. Done!👍
Good post...
Thank you for this report! I don;t know how the witness votes work but I'm interested in it.
Ah, that's a rough week for the old block-missing record.
I really want HF-20 to come soon because people are misuing the power of self voting. This is not good for steemit.
Best Regards
thanks for the update
Thanks for the hard work and sharing the good tips! We need people like you. You have got my vote brother and following you too now 😆 #minnowsupport
Hi @ausbitbank - I'm sorry there is no other way to contact you about this other than through a comment. I'm trying to start a contest for people that promo the Steemit network. I'd love your support if you think the contest will work. If not, no worries. Maybe I'll run it once a week? https://steemit.com/steemit/@trevorlyman/daily-facebook-bomb-mass-promotion-steem-giveaway
