God in his infinite wisdom created man and woman. His intent is that both should act as surbodinates to each other. Therefore it is the duty of every man on earth to respect women.Women over the years have been segregated, trampled down on,their rights infringed and many other unwholesome acts have been meted out to them.
In the Ghanaian cultural setting formative years of pre-colonialism, women very generally regarded as people meant for the kitchen and household chores. This put a tag on them causing them not to surge forward in life.
In the victorian era which dates as far back as the 20th century women were seen as people who were incapable of doing any good thing.Mary Ann Evans a prolific writer at the time had to write a very inspiring novel under the pseudonymGeorge Elliot all because she felt her work would not be patronized because she is a woman. All these things have happened and it's high time people of the world learn to put women on that pedestal for them to feel equally important as men are.The idea of feminism is not bad at all,it should not be seen as a vehement attack on fighting for equal rights. It is an ideology that seeks to make women have the feeling that they have equal rights as men do.It is a voice for the voiceless woman in that village who must assuage the reckless demand of sex from her husband all because he has paid for her bride price,it is a vehicle to make women feel important in society.
Women have an equal potential to rub shoulders with men on top issues and as such many have proven themselves worthy.
Chimanda Ngozie, a great nigerian novelist has showed that she is equally the Charles Dickens of our time,Anita Erskine,Ama Ata Aidoo,Ama Darko,Maya Angelou and many others are all no exceptions. It's high time women in society be treated as integral parts of our society, the time has come for agencies and cooperations to serve as the mouth-piece of that helpless woman who is being sexually abused. As we commemorate or celebrate women on the international front, let us all bear in mind that they are an integral part of our society for Dr.Kwegir Aggrey(a Ghanaian educationist) once said that if you educate a man you educate just a child but if you educate a woman you educate a nation).
Happy international women's day to all women on Steemit.
