Well hello everyone. It has been quite a while since I did a post here on Steemit and this one is just to get warmed up and reintroduce myself.....I have been active on the discord woodworking channel
We have a woodworking community here on steemit and would welcome you. We have a discord channel, link here: Woodworking on Steem Discord Channel
But I have been going crazy trying to get my tools out of storage to get back to work building my cigar box guitars and anything else I can think of. I think I might have that solved and will get them home very soon.
My mind has been going crazy with ideas to expand my operation. I will still be building one of a king Cigar Box Guitars
And Amplifiers from the cigar boxes
and of course my slides...... I have been busy with these even if my big tools are in storage and have been surprised at how many I have sent worldwide.
But I want to expand into a different market and am not sure which way to go. One being wooden toys. These always sell and are actually quite fun to build. Having a 1 1/2 year old grandson makes it even more fun because I have my own test kitchen....( I need to say that the photos from here on out are not mine and are borrowed from the internet and I do not claim ownership in any way)
I also would like to build some furniture again and might go with a rocking chair or two....
But one thing that captures the attention of all age groups is unusual or different crafty items.... The bird house and name plates and puzzles work but I want to find that one that everyone just has to have when they see it at the craft fair...
So all my woodworking friends and the DIY guys along with art and anyone else that might have an idea, please let me know. I would love to hear of items you wish you saw that I could build or items that you make that sell like crazy. Old favorites or new eye catchers......
So keep an eye out for some cool new videos of me making my old standards or something new from you ideas....
Thanks for reading through......

Yeah I have always found it hard to decide what to make. Having small stuff that can be made easily is great but you need something big to bring in the crowds so to speak. Your guitars and slides are so cool though and unique, you don't want to stray too far from those. The inspiration will come, I write all my ideas down now , it is easy to forget. Then if I am trying to think something up I refer back to my note book, surprising what I come u with sometimes.

Man as with anything know yourself (what you enjoy making) then know who you want to serve (your customers) then find them and sell them stuff.
My parents started their woodworking business years ago and have gone through different phases.
Lathe turned fancy pins. They collaborated with my jeweler uncle and made some nice corporate gifts for some of their ceo friends and then friends of friends.
Then my brother and his wife started having kids, so my folks started making toy chests, toys to put in them, a crib, then sold a bunch of cribs, nursing chairs, tons of stuff. Less clients but more money.
They did the fairs and festivals but sometimes they won big and sometimes they actually lost money. They make really beautiful things now that they themselves are interested in, but their money comes now 100% from the network they built along the way.
Their biggest earner is one small cedar soapdish that they mass produce for one cosmetics company. With that one product they fund all their expenses.
My best advice is to do the thing that really gets your heart going when you think about it. Just do it, and record it. Then share the heck out of it with everyone.
Good luck brother! You'll find your way!
By the way, I got to rambling there and forgot what brought be to comment in the first place haha
I wonder if you know my friend microwave Dave. He popularized the cigar box guitar in North Alabama (or rather repopularized it) and has hosted a blues specific radio show on npr for a decade. If you want or need inspiration for cig box guitars check him out.
sorry I never got back.... been busy. I might have run across him but the name does not ring out. I am aquainted with builders all over the world and belong to many groups on Facebook so If he is under a different name I may know him. My FB page is www.facebook.com/angelsong13/
