Leafy Seadragon — Design for a Shoji Screen, Part I forget; The Hinges

This folding screen is mean to be a gift for my 75 year old mother. Even though I made it with hollow core construction, and each panel is light enough for her to handle, I fear that all three together would be too much for her to move around her house if she wanted to. So I devised a hinge system that allows the panels to be easily separated, moved, then reassembled by one person.

I made up these short leather straps with snaps, and attached matching snaps to the edge of each panel.

By crossing them over onto the back of the panel, I get a hinge with 360 degree action that can be detached and reattached in seconds.

Now for a beauty shot of the fully assembled screen. It looks crooked cause my driveway is sloped.

Thanks for the kind words:) Enjoy!

That's a winner, those hinges are slick. Your idea ? Have you seen them before ? That's sheer genius, cant say I've seen it.

I think I got the idea from something like this.

that came out great......good idea on the hinges.... Yer Moma is a lucky woman

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Very nice! That's really clever with the hinges.
