Want be promoted ??? - You need to read that !!!

OK, first of all it's not going to be one of the wonderful pack of 10 tips that you can introduce to your life and you will achieve your goal immediately. What's going to be than? Truth, unfortunately for some of you. I'll give you some tips though, but not sure you will want to use it ;p
Opposite to politicians, I like to write/talk on topic I have some knowledge about. That's way I'll tell you how to get promotion in corporation. To be more specific, in engineering corporation, however I think my advises will be universal.
Let's start from the beginning. You just looking for first, 'big' job. You want it to be prestigious and challenging, as you're ambitious, you engineer (if you're totally opposite, don't worry - it will work for you as well). You tied up your CV, you even wrote cover letter, where you saying how much devoted you will be and you used words like 'mutual' and 'growth'. You're still optimistic, you sent your CV to companies only from top 10 of biggest player on the market. You know your value.

Interview
You lucky bastard. Congrats! You have been chosen to participate in first stage of interview. Let's say that for now, only one company get back to you with answer. You make your notes, get info about the company history and their products. You even open some books to refresh memory and difficult words.
Now, if you really want this job I will tell you how to get it.
Use comb, buy a chewing gum and don't use phrase "I don't know". This is for good start. Now you need to know, what they want to hear. How, just read job ad once again. Here few tips:

team player - you'll be able to line up. Work as other more than with others.
self motivated - promotion is far away and salary rises are max 2%. Other words, you love challenges and love to increase your experience
positive attitude - it has to be really boring job. You need to show that you like looking for details and you're hard worker
knowledge of BS..., random standards - they need to have some technical requirements after all ;)

Summarize. This is first time where your technical knowledge will be important. But still most tricky part is, HR kind of questions. Corporations doesn't look for brilliant engineers. NO! They want average person. So they can fit you into the team easily. Uniform - key word here, and I'm not talking about noun here.
