Do this and that

I get quite obsessive with certain things. Especially if they are kind of new so automatically require more attention.

The problem seems to be that I will shutdown everything else including things required for my operational efficacy.

Breaking my sleep routine, eating and exercise routine are all things that can suffer when I do that. It comes down to making whatever I am currently doing the most important part, but it is worse when I have a hard deadline.

I get better when I have a pretty loose deadline , and might even eat normally and sleep at reasonable times then.

It is also not just "super focus" items but I think I at times find avoid the mental overhead required to multitask. Since one item can be goal oriented, as in, it is clearly defined when I am complete and the other can be part of a bigger series of tasks.

So I am more likely to put all efforts into the single task and avoid any other tasks. I think a simple example is avoiding any and all communications or quick fix requests that would interject my work. Although it all can be done simply.

Usually though I would face a bigger problem with physical tasks that maybe require a wait period vs then continuing with digital work. So like printing many items where you only need to remove the newest item every few minutes and then continue with something else.

This can be extremely jarring, and I can be more likely to then not return to something requiring my full attention but instead just opt to watch something mindless the entire period.

That essentially loses me many hours worth of work.

So I guess preferring to be hyper focused on single tasks can be a double edged sword.
