Cycling to burn calories (Still at it)

in #workout4 years ago (edited)

Since the latter part of 2011, I picked up cycling as a way to both burn calories and as a hobby as it was an individual sport that you can do by yourself at any time. Something that really appealed to me because of time as we (I) tend to fit errands, working out, work and household chores into windows of time.
Getting multiple people together can be time consuming and taking off on a bike for 1hr on a whim is quite easy to do.

My ride to Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, CA.

Since 2011, I have biked a total of 29,654 miles. If I were to give advice for anyone getting into cycling and longevity, I would say to keep you cadence up, probably between 70 and 80 rpm on average. It's much easier to spin at 80 rpm if your younger... Keeping your cadence at a higher rpm is much easier on your knees and you place less stress on them. A key for those that still want to cycle latter on in life...

My ride yesterday was 48 miles in Northern California, the south bay area. It was about 62 degrees, partly sunny with 10 mph breeze. Very nice for the last day of January.

So next year in June, I will turn 59... So you really can cycle into your latter years, it is much easier if your in decent shape and moderate amount of body fat. (That is what I'm constantly working on....)

Cycling will clear your mind, give you a workout and time for yourself. You can listen to a podcast, music or learn a new language. (Which is what I'm trying to do...) こんにちはみなさん
