First NFTs are Live

in #worldbuilding2 years ago (edited)

Hi all.

A development update this time. I've been shifting funds and testing tools in an attempt to get the first Kalavian Tales NFTs up and running.

Although I have programming experience, I am completely new to creating and managing NFTs, so mistakes are certain and embarrassing situations very likely as I go through the waves of constructing a viable NFT ecosystem that adds a healthy amount of fun to the project.

NFT design overview

This is very much in the works, but currently the NFTs contain four properties:

  • name: Name of the card, across all variations.
  • variation: A license-plate style code that specifies how this card varies from the others.
  • id: A unique identified combining a shorthand version of the name and the variation.
  • power: A property that I believe may come in useful in the future, and that could be set to e.g. a burn value or a general experience level. For VaX it is currently set to 0.

Cards will have many more elements than they have properties, and to populate those I intend to create a public-facing database that can be read to find corresponding values. Essentially, the id will offer the ability to look up and retrieve the corresponding images and all properties, much like how it works for other Hive Engine NFTs.

It could be that this design is total nonsense. If that is the case, hopefully I will discover this soon, and present a revised version of this straight after! 😅

Current status

So at time of writing I have manged to:

  • Create a NFT issuing engine (I named it KATAN)
  • Incorporate the four data fields I think were needed for a good usage/trading experience.
  • Issue a total of 9 NFTs to the @kalavia account.

Here you can see the overview of the KATAN NFTs:

Now currently I am in the process of trying to find out how to open up a collection in the Hive Engine, so that they can be traded in a market place. I believe this tool also will enable people to see their own Kalavian Tales NFTs, as it does render NFTs in other collections as well there.

The documentation seems a bit sparse around this topic so any pointers in generally right directions are hugely helpful, though I am asking around as well of course :).

Lastly, you may wonder what the NFTs will end up like? They are very much a work in progress, but essentially the aim is to have something that looks like the picture below, but a bit more polished.

The current card design for VaX the Observer

The first set of NFTs are nine variations of VaX the Observer, about who you can read more here. These specific NFTs do not have any meaningful gaming stats, as they are meant to be symbolic for now. However, I will keep tabs on who owns each of these nine NFTs, and will give them the opportunity to help steer the initial directions of the project. The NFTs will also provide the holders a badge of honour for supporting this project in the Early Days, when its popularity and exposure is visibly low 😎. That being said, the intention is not for VaX NFTs to be soulbound, and those who receive them should become able to give them away or sell them.

Importantly, no two NFTs will be the same and in the case of VaX, each of the nine NFT specimen will have a completely uniquely generated AI-art image.

Lastly, the supply for VaX NFTs is extremely limited because this project is currently tiny. No further VaX NFTs will be created after these nine, but I do have many other NFTs planned, and those will have larger supplies (steered by the size of community interest).

Where will the NFTs go?

In this particular case, the NFT has a special, symbolic role, and I will not create other NFTs until these 9 NFTs have been properly distributed.

When I get the marketplace up and running, I may put a couple for sale to boost the exposure of Kalavian Tales a little. One copy (not the 1st one) will go to me (@notaboutme) and intend to donate the remaining copies to people who have given particularly useful input to the project so far.

Closing thoughts

That's all for today, and as always any thoughts from your side are hugely appreciated!

Interesting, I'll keep an eye on this project.
