Hey dear Hiveans and Travellers, to begin with I would like to welcome you all to my new contribution and hope you all have a great start to the new week! In this article I would like to share a travel experience with you which I enjoyed very much.
During my trip in the Austrian city of Salzburg I decided to do a hiking tour on the last day before my departure and it was the perfect variety for me to visit nature after I looked at the most important sights. I started early and before I drove to the Untersberg which is about 40 minutes away from Salzburg, I also visited the Kapuzinerberg and made a small round to the viewpoint which took about 30 minutes and was connected to a hiking trail which is closely surrounded by many trees. It was a relaxed way for a small hike, but there is also the possibility to choose other paths which take much more time and it can be said that it's an easy tour which is also recommended for people who do not have great experience with hiking and are looking for a relaxing change from the city. After this hike I took the bus to the Untersberg and since I previously bought the Salzburg Card where all sights are accessible free of charge, I had to pay nothing extra for the trip to the mountain and it was a pleasant ride through a beautiful landscape full of mountains and the bus goes directly to the well-known Untersberg cable car which regularly goes up. I knew the Untersberg for a long time, but it was my first visit and it's probably one of the best-known mountains when it comes to myths or legends and I think there are hardly any other mountains which are with more legends associated than the Untersberg, which is also known for the numerous underground caves and over 300 caves have already been discovered there, some of which are miles inside the mountain.
Some caves are even accessible and can be visited, but the majority is not accessible or very dangerous to visit and it's also often warned to enter them because this can be very dangerous and is also associated with risks which should only be taken for researchers or other experienced people. Some people have already disappeared when they wanted to visit the caves and there are numerous myths that there would live different creatures inside the mountain and a typical legend is also that dwarfs would live there and sometimes the Untersberg is also referred to as a residence of the gods. The Untersberg is also referred to as an energetic place and everywhere nearby supernatural phenomena are said to have occurred which can be traced back to the mystical energy of the mountain and the mountain is also particularly well known for legends about time travel and here there are supposed to be some portals with which people can travel to the past or future. There are numerous reports of people who, according to legends, have experienced phenomena over time which are inexplicable and this topic fills whole books and there were some hikers who disappeared without a trace during the trip and reappeared some time later with the assumption that they had only taken a short break without realizing that months had already passed. Some people are said to have been buried here on the grounds that they will be resurrected at a later date and by some people the mountain is even found as a kind of chakra of Europe and this is an important place of spiritual experiences. There is much more to write about the legends that could never be packaged in one contribution and for anyone who is interested in mythology, I can highly recommend researching a little more or maybe I can even motivate one or the other to visit it.
The mountain is partly on the Austrian side and on the Bavarian and by cable car I was from the Austrian in only about ten minutes up and from the station the hiking trail took about 30 minutes to the summit cross. If you have more time, you can also choose much longer paths and it's important to take the right equipment with you and sturdy shoes are important and it's highly recommended for people who want to hike as well as climb and at the top, there is also in the immediate vicinity of the station the possibility to eat something or take a break. Which paths someone take depends entirely on how much time someone has and I can recommend planning at least half a day and if you plan a longer hike you should start very early and plan at least 6 hours for the hike. From above you have a great view of the whole area and it was definitely a great experience for me to have finally visited this mystical place and for all those who should be in Austria or plan a hiking holiday, the Untersberg is a great recommendation, especially for people who want to get to the bottom of the mysteries more.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about this exciting mountain! I captured these pictures with my iPhone 16.

There are many myths surrounding the mountain and the monks choose such places for meditation. Anyway, you have traveled to a beautiful place and the photos are wonderful. Great post.
That’s right! I forgot to mention in the post that Untersberg was even visited by the Dalai Lama and was considered by him as a spiritual place.
Untersberg is also on my todo-list for a hike or a skitour. I hope i can do this the upcoming summer season. This winter there is very little snow on the mountains, normally the snow here is often several meters high. I like your post, hope you enjoyed your stay in austria and your hike at the Untersberg! 😊
I had a really great time and felt very welcome there. The culture in Austria is really so far-reaching, I hope I will also visit the capital Vienna one day :) Nature is of course one of the greatest highlights and especially hiking is a perfect diversification to exploring cities. Glad to hear that the mountain is on your list, maybe you will also share your experiences on Hive :)
Amazing landscapes of mountains!!
Thanks for the feedback :)

First of all, brother, I hope you enjoyed that experience a lot since a mountain like this is the perfect place to stay and live there because of the beautiful places that you share with us in your photographs. Furthermore, the fact that they can be in Austria on the one hand and in Germany on the other adds many points to that trek.
Yes, I enjoyed it to the fullest :) I realise you are also a great friend of hiking. Very true, Untersberg has a unique location. I wish you a great day!
