Humiliation vs. Humility

in #worship7 years ago

I learned a lesson last night...

I lead worship at CR every other Thursday night. I love doing this, and have gotten enough feedback over the years to be able to relax as I lead this group of about 80 people into the conscious and spiritual presence of God.
I, along with my little worship band, strive for excellence. Not to bring laud upon ourselves, but in order to offer a quality gift to the King, and to avoid snafus that would distract from the moment.
And we did well to start that evening. A small glitch in one song where capos were applied improperly, but overall, people were loving on God, enjoying the musical reminders of how much He loves us...

Then came song number 5...

It was a new song to me, and to the group, and as we started the song, the melody totally left me. There I was with no idea what notes to sing. I had the words. I had the chords. I was playing the guitar - and had no clue what to sing.

There was just one moment in which to decide.

Do I stop the bus? Or do I plunge on and fake it until I figure it out?
I plunged on, made up a melody on the fly - and everybody knew I was struggling, falling, and flopping.
Half way through the song the real melody came back to me, and I was able to finish it the way it was written, but - oh, it was sad. LOL

My people there are gracious, and they made light of it, but it was, indeed, a train wreck of a song.
I don't demand perfection of myself, but...

It's just easier to stay in worship if the music goes smoothly.

It's obvious that a rock star, I'm not.

I'm so glad for a worshiping family that is more interested in His presence, than they are in a performance.

True Worship! Sometimes it is like that and sometimes it is God that derails us. We like to blame the devil or even ourselves.
God will be God and do as He pleases. It is not our perfectly practiced songs! I do believe in giving God our best and being prepared. But God is listening to the melody of our heart. Sometimes making a joyful noise is perfect in His ears! Psalm 100

Yes! Thanks for the good words and good Word!
Blessings to you!
