During Pee Wee football season all other activities in Heritage seemingly cease to exist. For some people that was totally acceptable, but for Gavin it was unbearable. Professional wrestling was his only sports outlet, and since he was the newly appointed Commissioner of the HWF, he needed a fighting champion. Unfortunately, Freddy was not willing to forgo playing football at recess just to defend the championship and stripping him of the title would only lead to non-sanctioned physical violence.
Gavin had no other choice but to create a new wrestling company; one that featured wrestlers without ties to Pee Wee football and would allow him an opportunity to contend for the championship.
His first goal was easy. He just needed two competitors to vie for the vacant Heritage Wrestling Alliance heavyweight title.
He found the perfect candidates in Johnny McManus and Todd Bedrock. Johnny, a blond haired, blue eyed all American boy, was a former football player with a penchant for getting injured. He had a record of 4 or five broken arms, the desire to be something great, but a non-co-operating body.
Todd was a walking weapon. With flowing brown hair, an overly developed left arm, and breath so strong it would make a grizzly bear weak in the knees, he was the epitome of a championship contender.
Writing up a contract on a sheet of wide ruled paper, Gavin had both boys signed up and ready for the next recess.
The match began a couple minutes into the first recess of the morning. Both boys lined up awkwardly and began to circle. Gavin, playing referee, was just to the side of them shadowing the action.
Johnny made the first move; lunging at Todd’s torso in an attempt to take him down to the ground. Instead he found himself grabbed by his shirt and casually tossed onto the grassy lawn as if he was a rampaging bull taking on a skillful matador. Regrouping, he made another attempt. This time he went for Todd’s legs.
Todd kept a strong base and leveraged all of his weight onto the leg being attacked. He then bent over; clutching Johnny by his left armpit and maneuvering him into a front face lock. Johnny began trashing about wildly; desperately trying to escape before the inevitable throw. It was too late. His body was airborne and his arms were flailing about wildly in ragdoll fashion.
Seconds later his shoulders would be pinned to the ground. “Cowboy” Todd Bedrock would be the first HWA Heavyweight Wrestling Champion.
