"THE MOTIVES FOR FASTING"; "MOTIVOS PARA AYUNAR"

Just as anyone has to train and exercise in order to excel in some sport, we as children of God also have to exercise ourselves in order to excel as children of God (have fellowship with Him).
There are spiritual exercises such as reading the Word of God, praying, meditating on his Word and another spiritual exercise that is little talked about is fasting. Fasting is to abstain from food for a time, in the search for God. Today I want to talk about a man who proclaimed fasting so that God would guide them, protect them and protect their goods. This man was Ezra.
This Jewish people, after leaving Babylon (the captivity), went to Jerusalem, their city, a very extensive and dangerous journey; but Ezra was convinced that God was the only one who could help and protect them in this return to Jerusalem. Today we are going to be talking about the fast proclaimed by Ezra, so the title of the sermon is "MOTIVES FOR FASTING", I want to tell you that there will always be reasons to fast in the daily life of any person and today we will see what motivates Ezra proclaim this fast and they are still valid for us. We are reading Ezra 8: 21-23. Here we see the first reason to fast:

I.- ADDRESS:
So when you need direction in your life, it's a good reason to fast. The Word of God says: "To request the right path for us". The reason for this fast of Ezra included the direction they needed from God, not to take the wrong path. The journey was long and dangerous and undoubtedly needed the guidance of God. As God was with the people of Israel in the time of Moses who guided them; so this people needed that guidance from God. What a great company if God goes with the people and Ezra, is the best of all the companies. Ezra trusted that if God led them, they would arrive without any problem at their destination, which was Jerusalem. That is why Esdras publishes the fast, because he was convinced that God is powerful to guide them and take them along that path. An adventure of faith. Fasting is mentioned in the Bible as a sacrificial form of combatant prayer, which produces results that will not be achieved in any other way. This is particularly evident with the expulsion of the demons at the time of Jesus (Mark 9: 14-29). Fasting involves the renunciation of necessary sustenance, while our attention is focused, during that period, on the search for God. This direction has to do with the presence of God guiding the people. Ezra knew if God was going with them, they would be on the right track. I believe that each one of us needs the presence of God in our lives, guiding everything we do. It is necessary to be attentive to the Holy Spirit, because there are moments that he can tell us there, he does not go the other way. If you are at a crossroads and do not know which path to take, which is the right direction, you may need to fast asking the Lord for direction for your life. If God is guiding your life, the path you take is the right one. Another motivation for fasting is by:

II.- PROTECTION:
In that trip they were going to find any type of danger and the weakest could suffer the greater consequences, there Edras proclaimed fast for protection for the children. But here it refers to the elderly, children, women, who on this trip are the weakest.
The danger threatened, but Ezra was convinced that God would deliver them from the enemies. He had already proclaimed it to the king: "The hand of our God is for good over all those who seek him, plus his power and his fury against all those who forsake him."
Ezra causes shame to ask the king to send troop and escorts. He trusted in God, who was going to protect the most needy and in general all the people. Because everyone needed God's protection.
Pray and fast for protection for our children is a blessing; because we are convinced that God will work, our God is a living God and he acts in a supernatural way.
It is necessary to exercise in fasting, since amazing results are obtained from God.
I remember that some time ago, my father was strongly threatened by a man, who became his enemy. But since my father does not fear people, he normally did his activities without any fear. My mother and my sisters if they were worried and started to pray and in the church they also began to pray; after a few days this man had inexplicably fallen out of a truck and died. We believe that God delivered and protected my father from his enemy.
As a family we have also seen God's protection over us. We have received threats, but God has delivered us from the enemy. I can guarantee you brothers that prayer and fasting have power. Fasting moves the hand of God on our behalf. Another reason to fast is because of:

III.- THE MATERIAL:
They carried vast treasures that were a temptation for thieves. Therefore, the people and Ezra fasted so that God would protect those goods they were carrying. The fast included protection for their goods.
They were going to face assailants and evildoers, but Ezra was convinced that God would free them from them and that is why they proclaimed fasting.
It is possible that they carried objects that could be damaged, broken and even lost; but others could be stolen during the trip. But if God protected these goods, they were going to reach the destination completely, without missing anything and that was the trust of Ezra.
For us today, it is a learning that we must pray and fast for our goods, so that God protects them and we give them the correct use, in such a way that it is a blessing for us and others. We must do it, not out of love for the goods, but because God has given you and you must administer them according to what God guides you.
We do not have to be selfish with what God gives us, we must bless others with what little or much He gives us.
We see in this passage that fasting is proclaimed in the first place to have direction, guidance, presence of God. Second, for protection for children, which involves the elderly and women. And in third place for protection for the goods that they were carrying.
Fasting is a great tool that God has given us to increase our trust and dependence on God. We draw closer to God, not so that He does what we want, but so that He will guide us in any situation.
The most exciting thing is that God listens to us and as he did with Ezra, he will listen to us. And he not only listened to them, but he answered them in such a way that God delivered them from the hand of the enemy and the lurker in the way.
The Jewish people saw the hand of God acting on their behalf, you can also see the hand of God acting in your favor if you really look for it, fasting is a way to seek God in the intimate. He will listen to you and answer you. So, we must fast more and approach God. God bless you.

Así como cualquier persona tiene que entrenarse y ejercitarse para poder sobresalir en algún deporte, nosotros como hijos de Dios también tenemos que ejercitarnos para poder sobresalir como hijos de Dios (tener comunión con Él).
Hay ejercicios espirituales como la lectura de la Palabra de Dios, orar, meditar en su Palabra y otro ejercicio espiritual que poco se habla es el ayunar. Ayunar es abstenerse del alimento por un tiempo, en la búsqueda de Dios. Hoy les quiero hablar de un hombre que proclamó ayuno para que Dios los guiara, los protegiera y protegiera sus bienes. Este hombre fue Esdras.
Este pueblo judío después de salir de Babilonia (la cautividad), se dirigía a Jerusalén su ciudad, un viaje bien extenso y con muchos peligros; pero Esdras estaba convencido que Dios era el único que los podía ayudar y proteger en este regreso a Jerusalén. Hoy vamos a estar hablando del ayuno que proclamó Esdras, por eso el título del sermón es “MOTIVOS PARA AYUNAR”, quiero decirles que siempre van a existir en la vida diaria de cualquier persona motivos para ayunar y hoy vamos a ver lo que motivo a Esdras proclamar este ayuno y que siguen vigente para nosotros. Estemos leyendo Esdras 8: 21-23. Aquí vemos el primer motivo para ayunar:

I.- DIRECCIÓN.
Así que cuando necesites dirección en tu vida, es un buen motivo para ayunar. La Palabra de Dios dice: “Para solicitar camino derecho para nosotros”. El motivo de este ayuno de Esdras incluía la dirección que necesitaban de Dios, para no tomar el camino equivocado. El recorrido era largo y peligroso e indudablemente necesitaban de la dirección de Dios. Así como Dios estuvo con el pueblo de Israel en el tiempo de Moisés que los guiaba; así este pueblo necesitaba esa guía de Dios.
Que gran compañía si Dios va con el pueblo y Esdras, es la mejor de todas las compañías. Esdras confiaba que si Dios los guiaba llegarían sin ningún problema a su destino, que era Jerusalén. Por eso es que Esdras publica el ayuno, porque estaba convencido que Dios es poderoso para guiarlos y llevarlos por todo ese recorrido. Una aventura de fe.
Al ayuno se le menciona en la Biblia como una forma sacrificial de oración combatiente, la cual produce resultados que no se alcanzarán de ninguna otra forma. Esto se pone particularmente de manifiesto con la expulsión de los demonios en tiempos de Jesús (Mr. 9: 14-29). El ayuno envuelve la renuncia al sustento necesario, mientras nuestra atención se centra, durante ese período, en la búsqueda de Dios.
Esta dirección tiene que ver con la presencia de Dios guiando al pueblo. Esdras sabía si Dios iba con ellos, andarían por buen camino.
Creo que cada uno de nosotros necesitamos de la presencia de Dios en nuestras vidas, guiando todo lo que hacemos. Es necesario estar atentos al Espíritu Santo, porque hay momentos que nos puede decir por allí no, anda por otro lado.
Si estás en una encrucijada y no sabes cual camino tomar, cual es la dirección correcta, es posible que debas ayunar pidiendo al Señor dirección para tu vida. Si Dios va guiando tu vida, el camino que tomes es el correcto. Otro motiva para ayunar es por:

II.- PROTECCIÓN:
En ese viaje se iban a encontrar cualquier tipo de peligro y los más débiles podrían sufrir las consecuencias mayores, allí Edras proclamó ayuno para protección para los hijos. Pero aquí se refiere a ancianos, niños, mujeres, que en este viaje son los más débiles.
El peligro amenazaba, pero Esdras estaba convencido que Dios los libraría de los enemigos. Ya él lo había proclamado al rey: “La mano de nuestro Dios es para bien sobre todos los que le buscan, más su poder y su furor contra todos los que le abandonan”.
Le ocasiona vergüenza a Esdras pedirle al rey que les enviara tropa y escoltas. Él confiaba en Dios, que iba a proteger a los más necesitados y en general a todo el pueblo. Porque todos necesitaban de la protección de Dios.
Orar y ayunar por protección para nuestros hijos es una bendición; porque estamos convencidos que Dios obrará, nuestro Dios es un Dios vivo y que actúa de una manera sobrenatural.
Es necesario ejercitarse en el ayuno, ya que se obtienen resultados asombrosos de parte de Dios.
Recuerdo que hace un tiempo atrás, mi padre fue amenazado fuertemente por un hombre, que se convirtió en su enemigo. Pero como mi padre no teme a las personas, hacía sus actividades normalmente sin ningún temor. Mi madre y mis hermanas si estaban preocupadas y empezaron a orar y en la iglesia también comenzaron a orar; al cabo de unos días este hombre se había caído inexplicablemente de una camioneta y murió. Nosotros creemos que Dios libró y protegió a mi padre de su enemigo.
Como familia también hemos visto la protección de Dios sobre nosotros. Hemos recibido amenazas, pero Dios nos ha librado del enemigo. Puedo garantizarles hermanos que la oración y el ayuno tiene poder. El ayuno mueve la mano de Dios a nuestro favor. Otro motivo de ayunar es por:

III.- LO MATERIAL:
Ellos llevaban vastos tesoros que era una tentación para los ladrones. Por lo tanto, el pueblo y Esdras ayunaban para que Dios protegiera esos bienes que llevaban. El ayuno incluía protección para sus bienes.
Ellos se iban a enfrentar a asaltantes y malhechores, pero Esdras estaba convencido que Dios los libraría de ellos y por eso se proclamaba el ayuno.
Es posible que llevaban objetos que se podía dañar, romper y hasta perder; pero otros podían ser robados durante el viaje. Pero si Dios protegía estos bienes, iban a llegar al destino completos, sin faltar nada y esa era la confianza de Esdras.
Para nosotros hoy en día, es un aprendizaje que debemos orar y ayunar por nuestros bienes, para que Dios los proteja y que le demos el uso correcto, de tal forma que sea de bendición para nosotros y otros. Debemos hacerlo, no por amor a los bienes, sino porque Dios te ha dado y debes administrarlos conforme a lo que Dios te guie.
No hay que ser egoísta con lo que Dios nos da, debemos bendecir a otros con lo poco o mucho que Él nos da.
Vemos en este pasaje que se proclama ayuno en primer lugar para tener dirección, guía, presencia de Dios. En segundo lugar, para protección para los hijos, que involucra los ancianos y mujeres. Y en tercer lugar para protección por los bienes que ellos llevaban.
El ayuno es una gran herramienta que Dios nos ha dado para aumentar nuestra confianza y dependencia de Dios. Nos acercamos más a Dios, no para que Él haga lo que deseamos, sino para que Él nos guíe ante cualquier situación.
Lo más emocionante es que Dios nos escucha y así como lo hizo con Esdras lo hará con nosotros. Y no solamente les escuchó, sino que les respondió de tal forma que Dios los libró de la mano del enemigo y del acechador en el camino.
El pueblo judío vio la mano de Dios actuar a su favor, igualmente puedes ver la mano de Dios actuar a tu favor si realmente le buscas, el ayuno es una forma de buscar a Dios en lo íntimo. Él te escuchará y te responderá. Así que, hay que ayunar más y acercarnos a Dios. Dios les bendiga.
