For all those with the desire to delve into the world of novel writing, November holds a special place. It is the month of the pen; The month of the paper; The month of the purplest of prose; It is National Novel Writers Month.

The challenge is fifty-thousand words in thirty days, but the goal is to quiver quill until there's a novel on your desk, table, lap, counter, bathtub rim, picnic table, or wherever else you may wiggle words, purvey postulations, or wrestle writing.

So, if you've ever thought about manufacturing a manuscript or scratching a screenplay, this is the month in which it should be done--provided you've not already done so in another month, which is just fine.

Last year, I penned a complete draft of a fifty-six-thousand word manuscript and I plan to do the same or better this year. If you think you've got a story in you that you'd like to surgically remove with a typewriter (or laptop if you're in that sort of crowd), I hope you'll join me. And, if you do participate in this prolific penciling of ponderant profundity, I wish you the best of luck!
