Spooky Tale: The Devil's Diesel
I heard this ghost story from the area I live and thought I'd share this spooky tale with you.
It is quite common to hear trains as if they were running on the old shut down tracts in the Sidley area of Bexhill (a particularly haunted part of Bexhill, although haunted by what is somewhat debatable).
This is the story as to why these trains are still heard to be running, even today...
The Devil's Diesel
Many years ago, there was old railwayman who lived in this area who was a very bitter man, but he had a good reason.
He had lost both of his sons.
The older one had gone into the railways just like his father, but when the Great War came, he volunteered and drove trains to the trenches, but a stray bullet had his name on it.
All the railwayman and his wife got was a telegram and a medal from a supposedly grateful Grand Brittania.
The younger son also chose to work on the railways, but he was fond of the bottle, as years moved by and diesel and electric trains replaced Steam engines, the boy re-trained as a motorman.
One day there was a terrible accident with the train that this man was driving and the younger son died a horrible painful death.
When an inquiry was held, there was evidence that the company was negligent, but because of the son's history of drinking, the blame was laid at his door.
This saddened the railwayman and his wife, in fact, his wife died of a broken heart.
The railwayman held a massive grudge against the railway company, as they had put their reputation and profit before the life of his son.
The years passed and the railway man grew even more bitter.
Bexhill began to grow as a town, as there were the rich people in big houses, boasting of their riches, including the director of the old railway company.
The director was parading around in his Roll Royce and the railwayman saw him and felt that familiar anger rise in his chest.
That evening, he went down to Sidley train station and waited for the train to pull in. All the crew knew him so he was welcome on the train.
He removed a single coal from the firebox and carried it onto the tracks, muttering many curses and oaths against the rich people of Bexhill and he asked the devil to take them if he paid with his soul.
So he threw the coal onto the track and it made an ear piercing clang that could have easily reached the depths of hell. People say it sounded like the chime of hell.
They say that the devil needs no invitation, but he took this one and he claimed the railwayman's life that very night.
The devil always keeps a contract, so from that time onwards, there has been a train that runs through Bexhill that claims the souls of the dead.
It is said that every month, the Sunday before a full moon, that this train runs on the Crowhurst to Bexhill line. It is a black liveried class 202 diesel.
Nobody sees or hears it leave Crowhurst, and it is deathly silent over the viaduct.
But the devilish engines are turned up full volume by the demonic driver as he runs it runs through Coombe woods and the echo sounds throughout Bexhill.
The driver is said to be headless so he sees no signals and is condemned to danger. At night, the train runs into Sidley and stops, the headless torso steps outside the cab and appears by the look of his torso to be looking for someone. People say this is the son of the railwayman, looking to talk with him just one more time.
But its too late, the devil himself then shows up and berates the driver by pointing to a huge rusty pocket watch, as the journey must be completed by midnight.
Reluctantly, the driver goes back in the cab and the devil waves a black flag and the train is gone in second.
People know that this is what happens because when a child is especially naughty, they are taken by the ear to the bridge to be shown this horrible scene, as a punishment they will always remember.
The train then arrives at Bexhill West, where those people who are pure and forgiving are given the opportunity to see the departure of the damned.
The damned sinners of Bexhill are forced to haul their great bags of sin onto the train, as there are no porters, as there is no help left for them. It is standing room only with only the basic British rail refreshments of ham sandwiches, weak tea and pork pies, which are hellishly priced. The damned are forced to face the horror of these prices forever more.
When they have all boarded, the devil blows the whistle and the headless driver hurtles the train out at a furious speed and they are gone.
Even today this terrible train runs and it collects the faithless, greedy and uncharitable, even though the line has long gone.

Hi, I noticed that your second L is also capitalized. I wonder if it was intentional. That is usually the way that League of Legends is represented. I mostly see it as

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, alright then. Good luck to me, good luck to you. I hope you read the story too.
Spooky spooky train!
yes, definitely a great ghost story, I listened to many but they are colloquial of my country, maybe you do not know them, but I love, a warm greeting @adsactly
Perhaps you could share one or two from your country? I was thinking of sharing a few from my town, but this one grew quite long.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, in Venezuela there are plenty of stories. We got 'la Sayona', 'la Llorona', 'el Silbón' and many others. Maybe I'll translate them and bring them to Steemit.
If you want i can share the story of "The Office"...you can look to my blog after 15min..
I will certainly check it out when I have a spare moment.
That would be awesome, please do, but remember to say they are translations.
I had Deisel 10 in my mind a lot of the time whilst writing this actually.
Surely, @adsactly thats inspirational
Well, it was written by @hopehuggs. @adsactly is just the medium where they're shared. The writers they hire sure are talented, though. :P But credit where it's due!
yes that's great story , i saw a ghost in my garden at night when i was a child and that night was the scary night of my life :/
@sibtainali
You should tell us more about that experience @sibtainali, sounds intriguing.
it was 11am at night and i am going to sleep, when i come to my room , i close my room window and i seem that their is a thing that is moving and open the window and see that a lady is walking and i feel afraid and go to mom rooms :/ that was the bad night of my life which never be forget :( @hopehuggs
That does sound creepy.
yes :(
I had a music teacher at school who would show us horror movies instead of teaching music, I don't know if it was that opened the doors to my love of a good ghost story, but it probably helped.
Good post read this story in my youth growing up fun to think about and another good flashback. Thanks for sharing.
I'm happy that you liked it.
Ooooh, it was you. I saw your comments above and was wondering why you were seemingly so interested in the comments. I'm still not familiarized the way @adsactly authors do their curation. Thanks for the nice comments, even though it's your duty. You're a great writer. <3 I'd say 'keep it up' but that's cliché, so... good luck and good day I guess.
Interesting .. But the worst part is that your little boy died in a terrible bitter death.
It is just a story.
No, it's real O.O Don't kill his dreams.
@adsactly thank you for taking time and tell us the Devil diesel, the devil sometimes actively tend to trap individuals who are innocent.
sadly true.
Post The nice and interesting, I had goosebumps with the story Yang you post above, thank you for sharing,
Goosebumps? I might have to find out some more local tales to share.
@hopehuggs , Yes, that's right, I also have some horror stories in my area, that's where Yang makes me goosebumps.
An interesting story, and creepy. hopefully I do not experience such a thing.
but is there a witness or person to see it directly with the headless driver?
I do not know if there is a real witness, its a word of mouth tale.
It does kind of leave you wide eyed.
Very much so, thanks for the share.
Congratulations great publication, success.

The railway man bitter experience touches the heart
You can kind of understand where he is coming from if you hold on to all that bitterness.
Can you say spooky...
Awesome gif, thanks for sharing
Wow this kind of stories is right up my alley.
Really makes you think and consider your actions as well. Well done
A ghost story with a moral, indeed.
I always love such creative and somber tales, and one must give thought to how many just might be true. 😉
It could be, the hellish prices of the food on the train sounds quite beliveable.
Wow
Thanks for scaring me tonight.
Sleep will come harder now
Always the sign of a good story. I hope you get some good sleep anyway.
I hope so too, I just saw a creepy movie about Halloween. @adsactly nailed
Another great gif.
That's exactly how I'm looking as I read through the ghost story. From cradle, I am usually not a fan of ghost stories, it gets me scared when I want to sleep. Lolz! That was then though.
Meanwhile the story holds true with an African context. We believe in ghosts and their efficacy to harm and thus some people consult and invoke ghost into action - always negative actions.
Let the train keep running...
in different parts of the world there are terrible stories. And your story definitely deserves attention. The essence of such "terrible stories" is that they have a moral. And the moral is that as a result of punishment, remain bad people - those who deserve to punish their actions.
This story does not frighten an adult person, but they act very well on children. Forcing are afraid of bad deeds. Children are especially impressionable and trusting, so it's a good way to show them that it is necessary to be kind and honest. I so see it.
Thank you @hopehuggs, you definitely should make a contest to write terrible stories, I'm sure they will be many and many will be interesting: _)
That is a good idea @frankl1n, maybe a competition to get as many ghost stories from as many different countries as possible.
You are right, I think this was definitely a tale to sacre kids into behaving well.
it would be a good opportunity to share your story and read a terrible and instructive story about ghosts from other countries.
may his gentle soul rest in peace. Nice tale of the devil diesel. Interesting tale @adsactly
That is so kind.
Oh thanks. So Kind of you too for my recognition @hopehuggs
