One Moon
I have my father's blood.
That is the blood of a fool, and a great leader., The line is close between the two.
It is dawn of the age of man.
What great men have gone before me and died? What great women have bore the sons of the Island? We gather and we hunt, like our forefathers and mothers before us, but we still are new, we are a new people.
We have slain the Okan Tribe, and their women and children lie slaughtered amongst the men.
They are extinct, no chance for a pregnant mother to raise her son to take revenge. The Gods are pleased with us. The weather is fruitful, and the beasts of the forest leave us alone. The Gods are pleased.
Now with the Okan Tribe gone our people are free to seed the Island. I will take my wives and give them many sons. The Akan married one man to one wife, no more - I think they are fools.
Now they are dead.
Their warriors were unable to defend themselves, and they suffered the wrath of our Gods.
Two Moons
I have my father's blood. This time the blood has been foolish. I heard a noise in the night, and I did not find out what made the noise. I knew our sentry would protect us.
I heard a painful cracking noise, and the sound of blood.
I emerged out of the my tent, and saw our sentry dead on the ground - his head exploded open and bleeding out gore. Over him, was an angry Okan Tribesmen, he must have escaped during our raid. He was still holding a rock, eyes wild.
I yelled, and the other men jumped out of their tents. We killed the invader, and we cast his corpse into the freezing sea. The cold turned our skin purple as we returned to the camp.
We need to find a cave, the wind bites at our backs. We will bury the sentry tomorrow. He failed to protect himself, we will let his spirit suffer the wrath of the wind God for a night.
Three Moons
The winter has not broke, the trees are frozen, and the snow is the size of a child. Many children have died from the cold, and those who wander to far often never return. My best warrior says it could be frost demons stealing them - I say it is the wolves. They have not attacked yet, but I know they will. We cannot a cave, traveling is too dangerous. We need meat for the pregnant women.
Four Moons
I have been cursed by the Gods.
I have returned from a hunting trip and found my village destroyed. The wind has swept through and frozen the corpses of everyone. There are scattered foot trackings leading out into the forest - where whoever enters surely dies. They must have been fleeing.
I wept bitterly, and cursed myself. My best warrior knelt next to me and joined my grief, as his sons and daughters were frozen as well. We had been on a hunting trip and tragedy struck, we must have angered the mountain gods, as many boulders came crashing down and blocked the path home. As we went looking for a new path our third hunter was slain by a bladed tiger, with teeth long and sinister.
We were delayed by two days.
Now that we have returned home, we have found everything destroyed.
The women are dead. The children are frozen. I am bitter.
There seemed to large tracking throughout the camp, a large tusked creature destroyed the camp and scattred everyone - destroying the tents, likely in the night. It must have been a mad mammoth. They are normally passive creatures, but before my father was killed, we warned me of mammoth beasts becoming dangerous and violent.
Five Moons
Me and my best hunter have tracked down this mammoth. It’s cave is warm and shielded from the wind.
Oh, if we only had found this sooner!
We ambushed the mammoth in the night, it’s eyes were wild - it’s madness had gotten worse. It was covered in cuts and slashes from our warriors - who were too weak to protect my wives!
Fools! I would kill them again, I pray I never see their foolish faces in the spirit realm, or I will kill them myself!
The mammoth was easy to kill. We stabbed it with out spears, and bleed it with our knives.
I feel worse, yet the monster is dead. We burnt it’s heart as an offering.
Forgive us for our sins.
The Gods are not pleased.
We have been fools.
A difference in your story. You have the skill of creative writing with great imagination! Perhap you can publish a book in the near future if you have not thought about it.
Thanks @fun2learn. I have thought about publishing one quite a bit. I'm glad you enjoyed the story, even though it was a quiet a dark one. Thanks for the reply.
I've followed you with delight! I love your writing, the atmosphere and visual conjuring.
