How Your Ego Limits Success In Life and How to Prevent It

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

We are pretty messed up as a society, we have disconnected from our true nature so much that we often even disconnect from each other.

Not only does that disconnection make us sad, it also makes us feel lonely and sometimes it can lead to thinking that we are not good enough or in some cases, that others are not good enough.

Why do we have the ego?

Our mind is a very tricky thing to figure out, especially the ego. The ego lives with one purpose only, to keep you live. Its purpose is not to make you happy, to achieve your goals or to live the best life possible. It’s only purpose is to keep you as safe as possible at all times.

That was quite useful in ancient times when we used to hunt huge mammoths and stuff, but today the ego isn’t really that useful. In fact most of the time it causes us more harm, than good.

I will divide this post into 2 parts. I will describe two kinds of people and then you can decide in which category you can put yourself in. Keep in mind, that you’re not judging yourself, but your ego. Your ego and yourself are 2 very different things, which you mustn’t confuse with one another.

Introverts:

First off we have people whose egos are trying to make a person more distant from society. Sometimes this can make them feel unworthy, unwanted or insecure. Usually, this can be a result of judging from other people, which the ego then decides to take on and continue to judge the person in the same voice that they’ve been judged in, in the past.

This isn’t a very pleasing thing to the person, as the ego can make you his prisoner. It will constantly look for reasons to let you know what’s wrong with you, why you’re not good enough and what you need to work on, in order to be worthy. As scary as it sounds it’s very true and it happens to many people daily. More on how you can avoid this a bit later.

Extroverts:

The second category is exactly the opposite of the first one. Unlike the first one where the ego is looking for reasons to make the person feel unworthy, not good enough, etc. The second one does exactly the opposite. It makes itself feel worth more than it actually is. It thinks it’s above everything and everyone. It can make a person think that they’re better than everyone else and that everyone else is not as good as him. This is another very big trap that the ego sets up for you.

What it does is that it looks for reasons, not in the person, but in others. It looks for reasons to say why they’re not good enough, what they are bad at, etc. It’s a voice in someone’s head that constantly judges and looks for the negatives in others so it can make itself feel good and worthy.

As you can see both kinds of egos are really bad and don’t provide us with any benefit, most of the time it just causes suffering. No matter in which category you can place your ego, here’s how to get rid of its annoying voice and how to keep it under control.

In order for this to work you, of course, have to be aware of your thoughts — your ego, at all times, which can be accomplished through meditation.

Free your potential:

Here’s what I want you to do to free yourself from this imaginary ego prison.

Whenever you realize and you become aware what your ego is saying, whether it’s judging you or someone else, say this in your mind:

‘’Money, looks and status don’t define me or any other person. We are not what we have or what we look like, we’re simply the energy and the awareness in a physical body, therefore it doesn’t matter what a person has or how he/she looks like, neither does it define their worth.’’

If you keep repeating this over and over again for at least 21 days in a row, you will be officially free from the ego prison. You will not only see everyone as equal, you’ll also see everything in abundance. Which means that you’ll be able to live freely and live without limitations.

You’ll feel free and you’ll be able to do whatever you desire at any time of the day, there won’t be any fear or doubt in yourself or in others.

Your life will be filled with love and that’s when a new door will open up for you. A door to a new and better life, life filled with love and positivity, which will lead you into a world where all your wildest desires are already a reality.

Thank you for reading.

Until next time,
