If you want to really understand what diligence is, take note of the surgeon. The delicate nature of his work during operation procedures demands a great deal of diligence. In surgery there is no room for overlooking things. The surgeon is keen on the operation, fully concentrated, working his way through minute vessel and nerves. He is also careful not to leave any operation instrument in the operation field, no matter how small that may be. He is meticulous with his works, especially when the site he is operating is a delicate one. Such is attitude of a good student. Every minute detail is important and she can call ill afford to the overlook facts.
In our third year exam in Economics i had thoroughly prepared for that exam by reading over my notebook several times and even reading the text books on most of the topics. On the morning of the exam, about 40 minutes to time, I was discussing with a friend some of the topics we had covered. In the course of the discussion he asked me about the types of water treatment, to a topic which anyone would least expect to come, so i quickly brushed him aside and told him it would not future in the exam.
To my surprise this guy, who at that time even knew two out of the three types, suddenly became so restless and frantically looked for the third one in his notebook until he finally found it. This was something i had brushed aside several times in my studies because i thought it was not that all important, but then this brilliant chap would not allow this details to go 'scot free'.
Although no question on this topic appeared in the exam this genius would have had a winning edge over most of us if it had come. This is diligence and possession of this virtue will give you additional support you need to rise above your peers as shinning star.
