From the roots of the beginning

Human beings, by nature, are terrified of the unknown. It is something we cannot avoid. Just by entering a new room we start to feel uncomfortable, confused, oblivious to that world until we decide to accept things. Basically, our life consists of roaming the world deciding (or not) to take risks, face new realities or simply put aside our prejudices and insecurities and give the opportunity to any person, place or fact to surprise us.

It is not easy, by God not. Who writes to you is perhaps one of the most fearful souls of the unknown. I live constantly analyzing the different dimensions of any fact, trying to see the invisible threads that hold reality, the strings that the puppeteer handles, the truth of the cage ... you know, the typical. [Yes, I look a bit paranoid] But, although I am this way, I never deny my soul the opportunity to be surprised.

Yes, surprised. There is nothing better than living with this little fear of the world and finding happiness in places where there was previously doubt. Following this philosophy can be somewhat complex (I do not recommend it unless you have an adventurous soul) but I guarantee that the risk is well rewarded when it works, because the feeling it produces is wonderful. This is because, having no expectations, one enters the unknown world with critical eyes and trying to project our best image. Just then, we find something we were not looking for. Something that changes us, that brings us happiness and pushes us to let be (at least a little) as we were before. That something is called discovery and represents the roots of the beginning.

That was exactly what happened to me when I joined Whaleshares. As some of you know, I am from Venezuela and before joining Steemit I had always proposed to learn English but I was continually postponing it, almost relegating it to a "tomorrow I will do it." but it never progressed. However, since I joined this community, that old excuse disappeared.

Languages can always be an opportunity or an insurmountable barrier. They may be able to unify different worlds or isolate men. Whaleshares, fortunately, has been dedicated to being a bridge to unite all the continents. With its philosophy it allows the interaction between individuals so different but that being in the same place they feel part of something important, part of a project to which they contribute with what little but valuable they have. That is Whaleshares, a flag that brings us together in the same direction and claims the best of us.

From the first day I received an incredible welcome, I literally felt the warmth of a place where I was welcome, understood and, especially, challenged.

Yes, challenged.

As I am an individual who seeks to be surprised by everything, I did not hesitate a moment to enter into Discord shows and almost without realizing it, @freedomexists was calling me to present a publication. There everything started. I had always believed that my pronunciation would help me, at least, to be understood by 40%, but, I, a person used to speaking in public, when trying to articulate the words, felt totally disconnected from the world. I honestly believed that it would be impossible for them to understand 2% of my words, but it was not so.

Making a superhuman effort, they understood me. Not only that, everyone had the goodness to push me and keep encouraging me to improve. Since then, every week I try to have more fluid conversations. I am like a two-year-old boy who is growing, basically, and every day he builds more coherent sentences.

Whaleshares has challenged me to improve as a person, to grow as a human being, to understand other individuals, to feel part of a project that is valuable for its people and for the effort that each one makes from their individuality. Whaleshares was one of the first homes I found when I joined Steemit and I can only thank everyone for giving me so much. I feel extremely happy to be part of this community and I hope to continue growing with all of you. A thousand thanks, especially to you @freedomexists, @krazykrista @alexpmorris @crystalpacheco30 and @fuzzyvest.
