Day 3 of the 30 Day Steemit Challenge
When you create content, your writing either brings people value or does not. Creating value in others’ lives is key to making money. The more value you provide to others then the more money you have. Today's commodity in the age of the Internet is online reputation. Internet reputation is built up over time with great, valuable, and focused content. Once your reputation is built up then it is easier to make money. The trick is to figure out the process.
Creating content at the beginning can seem like a daunting task. I feel that way about my blog. This is a common doubt among startup bloggers. I overcame my doubts by practicing patience. Research has shown me that big content creators such as Tom Woods, Natalie Sisson, and others write consistently day after day. Their websites are two, three, or four years old. Once I realized that I relaxed and creating became easier.
Creating content takes practice like any other skill. Writing has historically been the main way to create content. Writing a blog post is commonplace because your reader can quickly search for what they need and move on. Other types of content, such as podcasts and videos, are becoming more popular. Podcasts and videos are more successful at customer engagement because you add a voice and visual aspect which conveys more feeling.
In marketing a blog, customer engagement is key to building a loyal following. Adding extra dimensions, such as audio and videos, help customers build a quicker connection. “Customer engagement is the emotional connection between a customer and a brand. Highly engaged customers buy more, promote more, and demonstrate more loyalty.” - Clarabridge. Emotionally involved customers end up being the best promotion tools and a faster path towards monetization.
Monetization
Opportunities to monetize a blog are numerous. Below I made a list of the main ways to monetize a blog:
- Affiliate Marketing - Amazon Associates, Others Products, etc
- Courses and/or service - Udemy, Skillshare, Special Content, etc
- Consulting/Coaching
- eBooks
- Ads - Google AdSense or direct ads
- Promotional Content
Each revenue stream can depend on the size of your blog. For lower traffic, niche blogs it will be harder to make money off of Google AdSense; whereas, coaching, consulting or promotional content will be much easier for you to monetize. Many instances of ways to monetize your blog can be found here and here.
Focused Content
Building an audience to a set persona is key to build a loyal following. Imagine trying to follow someone’s writing when they jump from one topic to another. For example, vegan cooking to cryptocurrencies or traveling to home repair. Mission statements help focus your content and set the intentions for your writing.
Niches are much easier to manage for new bloggers. Your content is focused and you have one main topic to focus on. A niche blog is much easier to monetize. If you have a multi-topic blog and are a small operation then it is much harder to manage and build traffic.
The best place resource I found on niches is from Elna Cain. I highly recommend you read her article.
Insights and Suggestions
My suggestion is to write even if you do not have the time to write your big piece. Write even if I can’t complete this 30-day challenge.

Nice post @btyanj4. I appreciate it. But, is it possible to still 'monetize' Steemit blog?
Take what you make from Steemit and move it to your platform. You can always use Amazon affiliate links especially if you do a mention of a product on your post.
Wow thanks I'll try Amazon Affiliate program.
