A Love Letter To My Addiction

in #writing7 years ago

My first English writing assignment was quite challenging as we had to write "A Love Letter" to an object of our choice. The first thing that popped into my mind was my addiction to caffeinated soda due to the stormy relationship I have with it. Trying to kick this addiction has been a total nightmare, especially when I am exhausted or stressed, craving my picker-upper.

I once called my favourite drink(Cola Tonic and Lemonade) my "Precious" as a joke to my children. Ever since that day, whenever they see me down or in a bad mood, they would ask me if they can get me a fix of my "Precious" which is not helping me much in my quest to conquer my weakness. Unfortunately, my "Precious" is affecting my health and adds quite a bit of extra padding to my once gorgeous body. (wink wink)

Without further ado, here is what I wrote:

My dearest Precious

You, my effervescent soft drink, bubbled your way into my life and showed me the meaning of love, sip by sip. With you by my side, I have entered a journey of transformation. Since that first taste, I lost all my senses and knew I never wanted to spend another day without you.

You have become my addiction, my mood fixer, with your sparkling personality and deliciously sinful taste. When you are not with me, I crave the experience of your popping bubbles on my tongue, sending tingling sensations throughout my mouth and right to the back of my throat.

My love for you, my caffeinated fix, increases the firing speed of the neurons in my brain, hyping the levels of endorphins, giving my heart that pleasant sensation, awakening my emotions and making me more alert.

Your affection strips calcium from my bones, causes my blood pressure to increase, my insulin levels to skyrocket and my waistline to grow. You affect my cognitive abilities and sleep has abandoned me, as you constantly consume my thoughts. I experience withdrawal symptoms when we are apart and cannot imagine life without you.

Whenever I put my lips to you, I feel at home. Nothing compares to the joy and contentment I experience when with you. You are my life and worth every sacrifice I make. You are my everlasting concoction of joy; I promise I will not take you for granted.

Love
Your slave forever

Great write up ,if i was to choose i would choose steemit, because this platform has given me the priviledge to share my idea amongst others and also learn new things daily.

Thank you dayjee, that is very true. I love steemit as we can learn so much from each other here and improve on all kinds of skills.

Talk about an addiction that is popping!

MMmm and that popping is what makes it all worthwhile. Do you have any addictions braxton101?

Definitely worth an upvote and a resteem :]

Thank you very much imbritish, I truly appreciate your support. Viva La Britain!

awesome post @crazymumzysa

Thank you, iamrifk.

Unique love letter.

Thank you, i-steem. For me, it is much easier to write to an object than a person and it is more fun.

Thanks metehaansever, I also thought it was cool.

Your writing is exquisite and decorative. I love how you used literary devices to make your writing more interesting as well as beautiful. I wish I could write like that

Thank you for the kind words, rsakib17. All you need to do is learn the basic writing skills for essays, improve your vocabulary through reading, do some research on your favourite topic (things you love and are passionate about), and most important - put your mind and heart into it.

I like your love letter @crazymumzysa. Are you still in love with your Precious?

I still have my stressful days where I want to turn to that which I know will give me instant gratification, diamondinform. I love dancing though and Zumba helps me to release just as many happy endorphins as my addiction. You rock!

Oh yes @crazymumzysa, I appreciate the Zumba moments too. They make you happy indeed.

The way you express your feeling to your "precious" is really good. If I get a letter like that, I'll fly, lol.

That's really an addiction.

Thank you very much, kayya.muleeeya. We sometimes do some crazy things, this was one of mine.

Your love letter is "precious"! Your idea to write a love letter to your addiction, is brilliant. I have so many... I will add the idea to the list of blogs I still want to do, and ponder on it. Upvoted and resteemed, of course.

Thank you very much, minnaloushe. It is worth writing about and I am looking forward reading your posts.

wow, first time am experiencing a love letter to an object. The way you put the words together was superb, while reading it i felt like you were speaking to an actual person.Good one

Thank you for these kind words, gabrielinnocent. This assignment was great fun and stretched my writing ability a bit.

You welcome. I just wrote my introduction post and ill be glad if you checked it out at MY INTRODUCTION POST Thanks

Great piece of work here. If i were to choose an object to write a love letter to, it would definitely be my X BOX, we have a sort of a long distance relationship cause I binge on games for 3 months then put it away, missing it and building the temptation to spend 3 more months soon !

I had such a giggle as my son goes through the same thing with his computer games. What matters most is that you try and actually succeed for some time.

Nice Post. Follow Me :)

hahaha. is the hardest thing to write a funny thing :)) much easier to post some boring science facts :))

a small correction on your letter :)) it would have ended optimistically if it would have been your slave AT THE MOMENT :)) not forever :))

long live coca coca inc.

Great love letter to your addiction! I too was a fan of soda (Diet Coke 🙄). 5-6 years ago I gave it up for a 30 day detox. One of my staff gave me a bottle and had replaced the label with one that says “liquid Satan” instead. I can’t say that I don’t drink Diet Coke anymore but after that 30 Days it’s become very rare. Good luck on your paper AND kicking your habit. ☺️
