When I was a child
All I wanted was to be a grown up
I wanted to be just as big
Wanted to talk like them
But what I wanted most of all was the freedom.
And now I'm here
And my wish to be grown granted
But funny enough, like clockwork
I want to be a kid again
I want that joy I used to have
But most of all, I want that freedom
The freedom of being a kid.
It's funny, that the thing I'd sort after
While I was a kid
Has become the same thing
I'm seeking for as an adult
Oh! The Irony
What changed, my desire?
No, I've got the same desire
I desire freedom, and that hasn't changed
I wanted to be free as a kid
I want to be free now as an adult.
I thought being an adult brought freedom
Now I realize that I was just being a kid
I wasn't able to see nor could I understand
What being an adult meant.
Yes adults have freedom of choice
But yet are so burdened by responsibility
That the freedom I so admired
Has become like a noose
And it's tightly placed around my neck.
The only thing I had to worry about
When I was a kid
Was when food was being served
I had few chores and I hated it
Oh what I'd give to have that back.
I wish I could trade places
Maybe the younger me would appreciate it
This life of a grown up
These burdens that seem only to multiply
Responsibilities I never saw coming.
If only I'd prepared better
If only I'd known the future would be like this
Maybe I would have taken a different route
Invested my time in productive activities
Made the right connections.
But it's not possible now
I'm here, I'm an adult
I've got the freedom
And I've got the responsibilities
I didn't plan for it, but it's not late.
I can never be a kid again
That chapter is over
I'm going to make the most of today
Make the most of my time
Perhaps I can shape a life I can be proud of.
For the first time you admit you were wrong
