Steemit Writing Tips: Steepshot.io isn't just for Picture Posts!

For a while now, I have been using the Steepshot.io front end to publish some of my posts here. In fact, probably somewhere in the region of 10-15 of my posts are created using Steepshot.

I realize that many people think of Steepshot as just a "photo app" like flickr and imgur... but there's really more to it than that.

As you can see by this post, you can publish FAR more than "just a photo with a caption." Steepshot allows a "description" (of your photo, technically speaking) that's up to 2048 characters in length. For the average writer, that's actually going to work out to somewhere between 300-400 words in length... which is probably more than 80% of the content on Steemit.

The other cool thing about Steepshot is that you get to use more than five tags!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not recommending that anyone go on a "tag spam" campaign, but it CAN be sort of handy when you — like I do — tag most of your posts with #photography and some group you're affiliated with, in my case #steemitbloggers. On Steemit, that would mean you're suddenly down to three descriptive tags. And if you were also part of a challenge or contest, you'd be down to TWO "free" tags.

So that's kind of a handy feature, too.

So anyway, I just wanted to toss this "medium-short" post out there, both as a recommendation to give it a try, as well as an illustration that you can write more than a simple caption!

How about YOU? Have you ever used Steepshot.io to publish your posts? If so, did you use it only for photo posts, or did you realize you can also "write" posts there? Leave a comment-- share your experiences-- be part of the conversation!

I actually had no idea @denmarkguy. I thought there was a limit to the amount of characters permitted... so this is very useful info because the additional tags are quite the bonus!

Well, there is a limit but you can get quite a lot of bang for your buck in 2000 characters... for most people that's close to 400 words.

I've started using Steepshot quite a bit since you can no longer create headings with the zappl front end. It works well for "somewhat shorter" posts.

I've used steepshot a few times myself. It's awesome that you can also write quite a bit to go with the photo. You can also add more than one photo as well which I've found very nifty. I still prefer to do my more longer posts on Steemit. A few times while using Steepshot I've experienced that the app stops working and I loose everything that I have written. Now I make sure I copy the text before I start adding my tags :)

I think copying before you submit something is just generally wise all around... I've lost too many posts to "internet fuzz" and unexplained posting errors... it's pretty much second nature now.

I was using Zappl for a while for short posts (questions to provoke discussions) but at some point they made it so you can no longer create a post title... I don't want my posts to be called "ZAP" and some long number. So now I mostly use Steepshot for those shorter posts.

Interesting. I had a look but there wasn't much information on it. I think your article had more information than the whole of Steepshot. I'm assuming it was built on SMT and that's how it's tying into Steemit?

They haven't done a whole lot to promote the site, as far as I can tell; right now there's a message bannered at the top of the site saying they are looking for "angel funding" or some kind of investor seed money.

The reward is paid in Steem/SBD... I don't think they have their own SMT.

Hi @denmarkguy! 🙂
I found you thanks to @jaynie and her text about her favourites from @steemitbloggers.
I like how you write and I want to improve my English by reading your articles. I hope you do not mind that. 😉

I don't mind at all, and welcome and thanks for the kind words! Seems to me your English is quite good.

Thanks! 🙏 My English is still supported by translators, but I spend a lot of time reading English articles to be independent. That is why I am looking for authors who write interestingly in order to have a pleasure from reading.🙂

I have no idea what Steepshot is and have so much yet to learn! Thanks for the info on this. I intend to check it out and see how it works. Not sure I quite understand it all yet, but since I learn by doing, checking it out is probably the route for me to go. Thank you!

It's just another useful way to interact with the Steem blockchain... and a nice this to have as an alternative for those times when the main Steemit is acting slow or giving error messages. I also like the fact that you can use larger numbers of tags.

If it helps with formatting and markdown stuff then I should be all in! That’s my downfall on here. I’m so slow with that piece of the puzzle.

The formatting tools are unfortunately pretty minimal.

And I must confess that because I am OLD, I actually hard code most of my posts in raw HTML, bypassing markdown and anything else completely.

I do that mostly, too, and then I see other people's beautifully formatted work, and then I go into a fit of making myself comply to that standard too. And then I don't. Ha!

I also used Steepshot.io. In some cases, the Steepshot.io votes for your posts and pays out money.

I didn't realize they cast votes, as well; haven't had any yet — that I am aware of.

Using the app is handy but they have a big % of beneficiary rewards. I had posted some pix previously but now I have switched to steemit's own editor.

I mostly use Steemit's own editor, too... I haven't really checked into what percentage they take.

They take 25%, same as dtube.

That's a fairly substantial chunk, I'm not too worried though... those developers did do some work, so I can't say I begrudge them the opportunity to make a little money for their efforts.

I'd love to check this out later. But currently, I'm using default editor for steemit blogs. This app seems pretty good for its word count and tags features.
btw thank you for sharing information.

I started using it as an experiment when Steemit was having all those "transmission error" problems and was really slow. Worked well as an alternative. Sure, I couldn't write long essays, but it was a good temporary solution. Now I use it quite a bit when I am not doing a "long form" post.

It Is hard to find people who do not love flowers. Nature lovers just love flowers.

The flowers are the most prominent in giving gifts to loved ones. On any given day, the style of giving flowers to loved ones is very old. Moreover, especially during the festival days, young people love to decorate with flowers.

These are definitely all true statements, but they don't seem very related to this post...

Wow very wonderful photography friend. I like it photography my best friend. thank you so much.
